If this was true then the Marines would not be responsible for transporting to and from the airport on either the Sea Kings or Whitehawks (marine one is the only one that actually has the pres. at that time), the Air Force would not be responsible for Air Force 1 as well as the cargo transport of all Marine helicopters and SS detail vehicles and personnel. Both branches have specific divisions that are responsible for their assigned task for presidential details and transportation.
Also the Presidential detail of the SS is only a division of the SS and is for a set period of time and is mandatory. It is not a very fun time, long hours, tons of travel and lots of stress. Not a great stint of time for someone with a family. The lions share of Secret Service work is check fraud and other white collar crimes investigation.
