Well I can't take credit for the shot. But I know the photographer that took it. Like many of the lots around Merrymeeting Lake, her home sits high on a steep slope above the lake. The eagle landed in a treetop downslope from her, so it was about eye level, despite being in the top of the tree.
As for whether the eagles stay around all year, I'm not sure. But I do know that the pair who nest on the Merrymeeting River were building a nest last February, and another photographer took a shot of one of them eating on the ice at some point during the winter.

It was great being able to see and take pictures of the ones at the dam this summer.
Merrymeeting believe it or not the folks whose house I'm working on down the lake from you have never seen the eagles around the lake. They have been there for quite a while to.
Now that I come in from Old Wolfeboro Rd I don't go past where they were nesting anymore.
We see then on the lakes of Maine while snowmobiling where many fisherman will leave fish sitting on the ice for the eagles.
