this is a tough one,
some times people like to use wood chips on an area that they want to look natural, or some type of mulch, (not an expensive landscape bark mulch)
example-some times people will use mulch on a septic system they do not wan't to maintain and i've also seen wood chips used for that.
as far as filling in, grading, leveling ect. maybe a ledge pack will work, sometimes depending on the color of aggregate (stone dust and rock) that was crushed, it may have that look that geos with a natural setting.
