Actually I think the principal reason for so many violations is the small no wake markers that people do not notice or can not read. Not that many years ago the marker near the point of Bear Island was a large metal buoy with large circular "No Wake" signs on each side. It was impossible to miss and easy to read from a distance. Since that has been removed I think many newcomers just don't know there is a NWZ there.

Spot on BI. The first time I went through that area I never saw the no-wake bouys. It is a very wide area(900ft) for a nwz so I think people are not expecting there might be reason to look for one. There are many areas around the lake that have narrower passages without a nwz including the recently rejected Barber Pole passage.
