Not true,Espo.Haddock,cod,salmon,swordfish,hallibut,cl ams,scallops and some others are mostly delivered fresh to restaurants and seafood stores.
The frozen at sea product isn't bad ,though and many of us use it when fish are spawning and the flesh changes a little.
I rarely buy seafood at the chain stores because a lot of it is farm raised from Asian and South American countries that don't have standards of cleanliness as good as ours.......with the exception of E.M.Heaths and stores like Capt'n Bart's.
For example,Mehan Fisheries is a regional dealer who selects his product at the Portland and Boston fish piers.When he buys swordfish,he selects it by measuring the fat content because fish that are migrating are nowhere near as good as fish that are feeding.Chain store just buy the cheapest,usually previously frozen product.He supplies Heath's and many local restaurants including ours.
