Default McDuff Machine Co.

Here is a little added information on the McDuff Machine Co. from research I have done.

William J. McDuff sold the company to George K. Gile and Edward M. Sanders in December 1920. George A. Collins, in partnership with George A. Quimby, purchased it from them in February 1922. Both Quimby and Collins were druggists and operated drug stores in Lakeport. Quimby's Drug Store was located in the IOOF building (street level) in Lakeport Square and Collins' Drug Store was at 59 Elm Street (where Wanda's Beauty Shop is today).

George A. Collins (1868-1934) was an entrepreneur and had extensive real estate holdings around the area. Among them was the Bear Island House, which he owned and operated from 1909 to 1922. He also had at least part interest in an ice house on Paugus Bay, but I have been unable to ascertain its exact location. Laconia City Directories of the 1920's to 1934 (the year of his death) lists him as president of McDuff's and his son, George P. as treasurer. He was also president of a Dodge - Plymouth dealership in the early 1930's, with his son as treasurer.

The 1940 City Directory lists "McDuff Marine Corp., boat building, repairing and renting, 65 Gold St., Lakeport; pres-treas Augustine S. Francis"
