Aren't those distant echoes off the mountains wunnerful?

One of the loudest calls of the Loon in this recording is named the "tremulo".

Two Loons do a terrific exchange of "tremulo" calls, beginning at 2:06 in the recording. (Stopping only by 2:17). The call starts out, "WOO-hoo-hoo-hoo"—rapidly "spoken".

During daylight hours, the "tremulo" call can indicate a Loon in flight and—as far as I know—is the only call a Loon makes in flight. (Called with wide-open beak, and mostly during morning hours).

Even if you can't see the bird right away, you can use your ears to follow the bird until he comes into view.

Upon hearing this particular call, look along the treeline at about 80-feet

and, all summer long, you can be greeted by the rare sight of a Loon in flight.

Sometimes, but rarely, there'll be a few simultaneously!

Loons have a unique "humpback" look in flight, but attain 90-MPH.
