Metrocast replaced my old modem with a new one, which includes a battery back-up good for up to 9 hours of standby. It does nothing for a cordless phone when the power is out, but you can plug in a "princess" (corded) phone and you will still have power. Talk time reduces the battery life dramatically, but you can still call and receive calls with a corded phone.
joey2665, I would be talking to Metrocast if you do not have a new modem. My new one is a black Arris, and has 8 LED lights, with the last three being telephone 1, telephone 2, and battery.
Installer asked if we had an alarm, and I said no, so he didn't go any further.
