Yes, it was a funeral parlor at one time but as with many FPs, once you take the sign down, it just looks like an ordinary house. I'm sure the producers of the movie made it as scary as possible.
I haven't seen the film, but rather than be scared I am guessing I would see too many exaggerations and not alllow myself to enjoy it for what it is, a scary movie.
