The "104 Diner" is now open for breakfast and lunch (Dinner next week), and I just stopped in. Their paper/cardboard menu is stamped "TRIAL MENU," and they are quick to tell all diners that they are still in "soft opening" mode. But this doesn't matter, as everything was great as would be expected.
There were lots of people poking around the equipment, trying to make sure everything is working OK (or learning how it works, I couldn't tell), including Alex Ray, who was dividing his time between his cell phone (dealing with opening day issues) and chatting with customers.
This morning I learned that the "104" is a joint venture between the Common Man people and Plain Jane's Diner in Rumney. I was told that the chef (owner?) of Plain Jane's is working "in the back" of the 104, cooking I suppose, and the menu specifies certain items that have been adopted from Plain Jane's. Inside, the place looks pretty much like Bobby's Girl, with a little more cleanliness. The coffee mugs still carry the former diner's name.
