Time to be concerned yet?
 

Railroad tracks still showing through the snow...
Ice is still, for the most part, unrideable...
No plowable snow in the near future...

Should we be worried yet here in the Lakes Region? Or have we just been spoiled by the last two Winters?

My legs are tired from doing the Snow Dance.

By then the trails around here are gonna be beat and I'm gonna start trailering the sled further north.

I've been riding every weekend since early December...plenty of snow out there, just gotta travel a little bit. Don't be lazy

I realize there's plenty of snow up north. My sled's still living in VT and I've been riding in the NEK.

Lakes Region website...Snowmobiling Forum...I'm talking local riding. Nothing like riding on a whim after a long day of work. You know, a little Throttle Therapy! Can't head North every weekend but when there's snow 'round these parts I get at least a little riding in every weekend. Well, back to bein' lazy. Have a great weekend everyone!

You should be VERY concerned.
As an avid boater and one who only tolerates winter I have made myself a one-man global warming machine. I am the very one you can blame for lack of snow.

I have all three vehicles, garden tractor, my weed-eater with extra rich gas, generator, gas edger, gas powered leaf vac/blower, push lawn mower, and snowblower all sitting at high idle in my driveway at this very minute in an attempt to turn New England into the Carolinas.

Adding my carbon footprint one turn of the crankshaft at a time. :)

Speaking with co-workers in the mid-West, South, Europe, and other places in the north, western, hemisphere this week, I'd say "no". You don't need to worry about extraordinary warmth anytime soon. ;)

Some of us, how should I say this, well are on first name status with the Snow Gods, and we always ask them politely to spread their flakes around very gently until Lake Winnipesaukee has the chance to freeze over solid and safe for the many who enjoy all of the winter sports and activities here.

Now, they do not always cooperate with us, but I think that two alltime record shattering snow events here in Dallas/Fort Worth so far this winter, is a very good sign!

Another record was broken here this morning in electricity use as Texans were trying to keep warm! :eek:

I think it is safe to put the lawnmowers, weed wackers and trimmers up until spring! :)

The thing is, you CAN ride around the Lakes Region. To get where you want to go it may not be pretty. Last weekend I did 100 miles from my backyard in Moultonboro. The first 5-7 miles weren't great (very thin) but it was worth it to get out and ride. I was simply saying, too many people are too concerned with the conditions that they overlook what can be found...

Looks like a blast. I don't see much for snow in the 10 day forecast on weather.com (weather channel). :(

You snow dancers need to all get on the same page...and Lawn Psycho might be gumming things up somehow...but you heard trfour's talk of Texas, and things are no better in Alabama...snow, temps in the teens...ice on the roads. Trust me, we all sincerely want YOU to have the cold and the snow, so...from the top..."one-two-three..."!

Phil saw his his shadow so Winter is only half over, but we're locked in an awful weather pattern for Norhthern New England snows. It'll probably take a foot and a half of snow to make the area trails decent, but I won't get greedy. I'll only ask for a 6" storm so we can at least tool around the lake. I think I need to take up ice fishing...

SOOO FRUSTRATING! All these storms passing south. I'm thinking of trailering down to DC and snowmobiling on the White House front lawn! :laugh:

It's only February, but I read somewhere that New England will have a February just like December was, really cold and not much snow. The cold and arctic air actually keeps the storms south, and that's why DC and the mid-atlantic are getting such gnarly storms. We could still get some decent snows this month and next month.

HA! Said the same thing to my buddy not an hour ago! Told him I'd probably take a bullet from Secret Service but it'd be worth it.

To answer the original question...yes.
The trend of the season has been south. Aside from a 2 week stretch in early January, everything has gone south. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Knowing our luck, it will probably change just in time for April. That is when we will get 65 degrees one day, and 2 feet of snow the next.

I can agree it went south and stopped in FL. We have had lousy weather this season. Cold, windy and wet. Not good boating weather. Yesterday I went out with friends and it was cold 60s and overcast. By the time we got to lunch it was sunny and upper 70s. Winds had died down also. Great return trip. My friends who had visited me in NH in Sept. last year said it was perfect NH weather.;)

Looks like my high octane output routine has worked. Maybe next year I can invest in a coal fired furnace and stove and we can go water skiing in January:D

I drove back to NC on Thursday. The snow in the mid-atlantic region was unreal. I-95 was fine, but the snow banks were huge. The river that comes out of DC and goes un I-95 had a bunch of snow in it. Probably dumped there I guess. I wanted to pull over and take the sled for a blast.

I rode the sled in my backyard earlier today here in NC. We got about 3 inches last night. It's melting fast though.

This is not the first winter that the snowmobile season has gotten started, In fact, mid to late February has consistently been the best riding here to start the season.

I understand how frustrating the snowmobiling season can be waiting for the snow Gods,... however, that huge smile on our faces when times are Good, more than makes up for the lean times! :) :) :) :)

Looks like a fairly modern sled in the photo, hard to tell, some would know better than I about what year that sled might be. I am not thinking this year for sure, but maybe in the last five.

...my guess is the Winter of 2007-2008. Of course, if the pricture is taken in Northern NH at elevation, it could be any old Winter.
