Beach Sand
Anyone know a contractor with some nice white beach sand?I know you can't use it on the water........it's for a play area. A lot of the time, they advertise "beach sand" but it is yellowish and coarse as opposed to fine white.

Close to Route 93-exit 28 in Campton at the Pike Industries sand & gravel yard, they let you go window shopping. Great opportunity for you to drive up there and take a look at some big piles of sand.
In the winter time, sand for traction is actually free for the taking in small quantities. |
Alton Area
Hi!
Not sure if you are looking for a specific area, but I recall speaking to the owner of Precious Gardens over in Alton Bay a few months ago and I was told he has the "fine white beach sand" or could get it if need be. There is also Alton Lumber that advertises "beach sand", but do not know the quality. |
Bagged sand

EDIT : Note later posts, I think the sand I bought was 'play sand' not beach sand. |
Bagged Sand
Hi Mee-n-Mac-
I would think that bagged sand would be play sand and not beach sand. Is that how they are selling their beach sand? Did you ask them if that was their beach sand? I would think they would sell their beach sand by the yard, etc. and it would be better quality. Just wondering. |
Play Sand

I think you are correct. Now that you've reminded my I think the bag said 'play sand'. Ooops, sorry for the mis-info. |
Beach sand, the type that sticks to the kids skin and is carried into the house does come in bags at most medium to large hardware stores. I have bought it many times to keep the sand box filled. It is labeled BEACH SAND. I have 3 bags out in the back yard that is 4 years old and use for counter weight on tractor in the winter.:)

Actually,it's a pretty big area and I'll probably need several yards so the bags won't work for me.Thanks for the tips.....maybe I'll run up to Pikes and check it out.

In M'boro
I saw a nice pile of sand for sale in Moultonborough, just west of the school (on the left as you are traveling east). The place also sells gravel, mulch and so forth. It looked really white, but I just saw it quickly while driving by.

I saw that too,Lakegeezer. It was at Dolbiers and I ordered some of it.I checked it closely and it was exactly what I was looking for.

MAYBE not on the water...

At most lakes I'm familiar with, this would be a highly questionable activity; however, it did occur at a location that DES had already—and famously—taken to court. :rolleye1: |
Gilbert Block on Route 107
We have a very large sandbox, and having last year bought the bagged sand, this year, we brought the pickup truck to Gilbert Block. Now, I suppose it is play sand, but it feels 'softer' than that to me. It's not abrasive, and I like sticking my toes in it when I play with my son.
Last year's price for bags of sand, was $5 a bag if I recall, at Lowe's This year, $18 for a pickup truck full!! By the way, the look on the little boy's face when he saw THEIR trucks loading up Daddy's truck with REAL tractors - PRICELESS! They also have locations in Hooksett and Tamworth. |
