The wave
I decided not to resurrect on old post and start a new one. We were on the lake today, one of our favorite weekends, maybe it was the perfect weather changed the regular fall boating dynamics but we were shocked that our fellow fall boaters were so rude. Getting people to wave was like pulling teeth, coupled with poor boating practices in general, was quite a surprise. It certainly did not ruin our day, but everyone on the boat was surprised by the rudeness on the lake today.

I always wave and usually wave first. The 150' rule sometimes makes it hard to tell if the other boats are looking at you when you wave. My home port in Jersey has no minimum distance so it's a little more personal:cool:

The funny part was that I saw more 150' rule violations than I saw all summer, which in turn led to the looking away instead of the waving.

Wave?
We noticed the same thing today (Sunday). We also noticed a lot of uneducated boaters out there. I'm not sure why that was this weekend, but maybe it was due to many boats belonging to "occasional boaters" who are up to close the camp and take the boat out for the season, but don't really use it as much as many of us on the Forum.
We did see some folks out there having a blast with young children and dogs...always a great sight! GB |
I think that most anyone will return a wave.....my theory is that there is so much to look at on the lake that some people just don't see you waving. Many times we will be sitting on our dock and will wave at boats that are cruising the shoreline, some very close, who don't return the greeting only because they are checking out houses and don't notice us even though we are only 100' away or so. Just my $.02
