Has the Marine Patrol changed frequencies?

It has been a while since I have picked them up on 854.4875 or the new 159.15

The Marine Patrol is still using 159.15 MHz, but they are now utilizing the APCO P25 digital mode. You now need a scanner that will receive and decode P25 digital transmissions to be able to hear the Marine Patrol. Unless you have a scanner that is designed to decode digital transmissions, they just sound like a loud buzz when you receive them.

A growing number of law enforcement and emergency service agencies are now using digital communications, including many NH sheriff departments and state police units.

If Skip happens to read this, perhaps he could shed a bit more light on the current status of what appears to be the increasing use of the APCO P25 digital mode in NH.

I do have a scanner that can receive APCO P25 transmissions. I have been receiving digital on 159.15 and the simulcast on 854.4875 for more than a year. However I have not received anything for several days at least. I would think its a scanner problem, but other channels are working fine.

They may have stopped the non-digital simulcast on 854.4875 but that does not explain why I can't get them on 159.15

Have you received them on either channel lately?

Interesting, Islander. I hadn't monitored the Marine Patrol frequency (159.15) in some time, but after reading your last post I monitored that frequency for about 1/2 hour, from 4:45 - 5:15 PM today. The MP dispatcher calls each unit on the hour to check on their locations, but I did not hear any transmissions at 5:00 PM.

So, I started monitoring another frequency the MP has used in the past - 155.91 - and heard their transmissions loud and clear. HOWEVER, they are not using the P25 digital mode now, they're back to using analog mode. I don't know if this is a permanent situation or not, but at least for now I am receiving them on 155.91 in analog. That frequency is also used by the NH State Police, and I am hearing their communications as well.

A good strong signal both dispatcher and mobiles. I think they are calling the channel "Alpha 1"

And I notice they are using PL code 136.5 instead of their old 151.4 I wonder if they had an equipment problem. 159.15 was not very clean where I am.

Yep, DRH hit it on the head....most NHMP transmissions are occuring on wat is called LP NORTH at 155.910 simplex with a PL 136.5.

Occasionally you will hear the dispatcher ask the officer to "switch to ASTRO" which is geek speak for using P25 on 159.150.

I won't comment on the current state of the NH law enforcement interoperability systyem, even after millions of dollars have been poured in to the program.

By the way, there is a lot of other traffic on LP North including Wakefield PD (call sign prefix "29" as dispatched by Troop E in Tamworth, F&G on occasion, and a number of agencies in Coos county).

This was the first weekend I was actually on the lake for an extended time with a couple kids tubing, etc. For the first time I saw Marine Patrol on the water on Waverunners, never seen this before. There was three or four in the water in Moultonborough and we were all "crawling" by like a parade or something.:emb:

We were in that parade, dpg! What a riot!

Out of curiosity..what are the MP's riding on these jet ski's wearing?? Do the waverunners have MP labeled on the side??

at about 12:30-1p on Sunday. The waverunners had simple white block letters on the cowling that said "MARINE PATROL". It appeared to me that they were in their "regular" uniforms, but wearing shorts...

Yes, the Waverunners did say "Marine Patrol" on the side of them. If I'm not mistaken they were in there typical black and white clothing I believe. From what I could see they were very interested in the bass boats fishing around the rocks I spotted them approaching a few.
