Replace Oil with gas furnance
 

I would prefer Trane but not finding any local dealers. Has anyone used Bosch? If so are you happy with it?

Any suggestions on best HVAC company in Moultonborough area? Some seem to like Gunstock? Any thoughts on New England of Heritage.

Best install/service is coming from Callahan HVAC in Moultonborough. The family lives in the area.

Gunstock HVAC
 

I switched to Gunstock HVAC since Morin retired. Extremely happy with the service and response! I had Rowell did an annual checkup on my condensing boiler before call Gunstock. It was $1200 and the technician says my boiler needs to be replaced because it was too big for the job! I switched to Gunstock, they say the boiler is fine and only charge me $200!

I have a house in Gilford with a septic tank and pump up to to town sewer. Last summer the pump failed early in the morning so my first call was to Rowell. They said they could come that day for a "emergency" fee of, I think, $150. I called Lamprey and they had someone at my house in 45 minutes with no extra fee. The service was good and the communication was great. They let me know that tank had to be pumped, and the pump truck was at the house within 2 hours. The sewer pump was replaced. They started that day and finished the next day. The second day was only necessary because it was easier to line up the plumbing by using the same brand pump for a replacement. The price was very fair.

On another note, I am very happy with the Rinnai combination condensing boiler. 16 years without a hiccup!

You're lucky, I've got a buddy of mine that is on his third in about the same time span. he was lucky to get one under warrantee.
Generally, they don't last as long as a traditional cast iron boiler, 25-30 years.

From my experience, it's all in the installation. I had a Celtic gas boiler that lasted 30+ years. Installed by Don Morin when he started the business. He also installed the Rinnai unit. The only problems I had are not the units themselves, the aftermarket equipment and valves to connect them to the home. Don had good luck with parts from Webster Valve in Franklin.

Don switched from Celtic to Rinnai as Celtic is no longer imported and Rinnai is a good fit for my home. My experience with folks that have problems with gas boilers found defective installation and or defective valves, circulators.

Hence, Rowell says my Rinnai was a bad fit and wanted to replace it with another boiler when the Rinnai was only 3 years old! I'm glad I didn't as the owner across the street had nothing but problems with has Rowell installed Bunson boiler.

FWIW: Many furnaces are made by the same factory. Mine came with a blank space for the label. LOL. I used a local guy whom I trust.

As implied above, the service factor is important.

A previous owner of my house had switched from gas to oil. They had probably gotten a good deal on a 2nd hand furnace and installed it themselves. Even though the service technician said the old lady was good, I retired it about 6 years ago. The installer tag's phone number only had 5 digits! That stopped in the late 60's, around here. My biggest hassle was removing and disposing of the tank. Hardly anyone wants to make a giant grill from them. I was required to cut it in half before putting it in the recycling bin. I suppose this was to avoid a fume explosion.

It was worth the hassle to avoid worrying about fuel delivery. Remember to remove and seal the fuller inlet. We've had a couple members post about the aggravation (to put it mildly) of a delivery error!

The condensing boilers that hang on the wall are stainless steel, the older traditional boilers are cast iron. Stainless will never outlast cast iron, esp the crappy stainless they use today!

But their pricing is always much higher than other quotes, so I am hesitant to use them, and I lean towards Trane, which they cannot install.

Our condensing boiler wall hung Rinnai is nothing but trouble.
It is less than 6 years old. Requires service every year.

I have had good luck with Rowell's! They have never tried to "oversell" me and I find their field techs to be very knowledgeable and friendly. Its also great to have a local person answer their phone who actually works for the company and speaks English fluently! I have had no issues with their pricing...

I use Rowells for maintenance, but when I get bids from them, they are always the high bid. If it were just a few dollars, I would not care, but they are always far and away the high bid. So, they have made me a little gun shy…no pun intended.
