youtube tv

Our youtube tv streaming package dropped ABC which means no channel 9. Any suggestions for a replacement?

fatlazyless 11-01-2025 07:46 AM

Channel 3, WCAX, Burlington, Vermont is a CBS-affiliate with people who show up to work.

WMUR App on your phone/tablet casted to your TV for now.

Usually, these license squabbles just last days, hope this is one of those things.

A Cheap Option!

I just got a Superbox. It works off the internet and seems to get everything, and I mean everything. Looks like it will get over 2,000 channels. The Patriot's games were not usually available while in Florida except when they were playing a Florida team.. From Florida, I can watch the Patriots on WBZ with the Superbox. it will also get WMUR while in Florida.

I will give it a couple more weeks to experiment with it but I may cancel cable TV and just keep the internet.

Keep us updated, these things usually get scrambled so I'm curious to see how long it works.

I downloaded VeryLocal, which is the WMUR app. You can get the news and such on that if that's what you are looking for.
I'm debating going over to FUBO to get back ESPN, and it has NESN too. I don't like having 10 apps to watch things, I'm a surfer. And I got rid of cable so I don't have to pay a ton, if I have to buy 10 different apps, it all washes out in the end.
I will research this SuperBox thing though, sounds interesting.

tummyman 11-02-2025 05:13 PM

Disney...who owns ABC....just got married to HULU this past week nad they dropped the hammer on youTubetv. Bet they are asking big bucks to get it back. FUBO looks like the best alternative for now. Will wait a few days, but I am ready to switch.

From WMUR ....... http://www.wmur.com/article/a-messag...s-imp/69210923 ...... Oct 30

Where does the content for the superbox come from? Torrent sites?
Are you using a VPN?

I had a jailbroken firestick and it worked great for a while, then more and more streams would simply hang. A VPN may be a solution.

Is there an over the air antenna option?

I am not a real technical person. It just runs on WIFI.

I am at the Florida house and I watched the Patriot's game Sunday November 2, using the Superbox. Without the Superbox I would not have been able to see it. It did freeze up once but just going up and down one channel brought it back to the game.

So far I am glad I bought it. It operates slightly differently than the Xfinity box so there is a small learning curve. I will give it another week or two and then I plan to cancel cable TV and just keep the internet. It only cost about $300 so just a few months without a cable bill will have more savings than that.

Near the lake it depends completely on your exact location (as in, on which side of which hill or mountain are you.)

At our house on Meredith Neck, for instance, we have zero ability to get WMUR or anything to the West of us. But we apparently have a clear shot to Portland, Maine - tho it's a pretty long way.

That said, with a $50 antenna (roof mounted, but just on a porch) and a $30 signal booster we get good signals from the Portland ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox affiliates.

The hard part is figuring out ahead of time what will work

That website says that at my location the WMUR reception will be "moderate".

Direct TV

We've had good luck with Direct TV. Fairly inexpensive and lots of channel options.

garysanfran 11-04-2025 06:36 PM

I remember, many years ago when cable first emerged, there were black boxes that could get around the cable. I don't remember the details but friends of mine at MIT made me one. It worked great...For quite a while, before the cable co.'s caught on.

And that would be with a 30' above the ground antenna. In my experience that requires a mast, guy wires, a pre-amp at the antenna, etc. Stuff that Radio Shack sold 30 years ago. But Radio Shack no longer exists. So unless the reception is strong and you can use a simple indoor antenna, forget about OTA reception.

I shall send Wifey to the roof to adjust the antenna as I shout directions out the window.... just like in the olden days!

That just cracked me up!!!!:laugh::laugh::laugh: That was my brother's job. I remember at one time he could change it from a pole outside his upstairs bedroom window.

upthesaukee 11-05-2025 09:15 AM

Back in the day...

Back in the mid-1980s, we had a roof-mounted antenna at our house in Alton Bay. The fledgling cable company, Lakes Region Cable television, was only on main roads in Alton, but you could contact them to see what it would cost to run the service to your house.

Dad contacted them and they came out and talked to Dad. The sales guy said it would be necessary to run the cable from Rte 11 up through the woods to our house on Rand Hill Rd. He had one of those measuring thig-a-bobs on a wheel that he used to measure the distance. He then told Dad he had some measurements to take and he would come back into the house when he finished his calculations.

Remember, this was in the mid-80s and the house was normally only occupied on weekends. The guy said he a really good news, it would only cost just under $4,000 to run the cable and poles to house.

Dad said thanks for your time, but forget it! (We finally got cable on our street several years later.)

Channel 9

I have the WMUR app on my android phone and a LG TV. Using the WMUR app I can stream the local news on my phone. Using the phone's smart view mirror setting the phone screen is cast to the TV. Good for the ch 9 news anyway.

Yup. ABC (WMUR) is again up and running on the You Tube TV streaming service this morning.

Nice to have the ABC option back again!

tummyman 11-15-2025 10:41 AM

But still apply for the $20 rebate....they have to pay a penalty for the loss of service !!

Yeah but for how long till the next time ?

Loub52 11-15-2025 09:37 PM

Ditched YouTubetv a while ago. Fubo is a good option for local programming (WMUR, WCVB, WBZ,FOX25, NECN). All the sports you want (to pay for) and never (so far) a threat of discontinued programming. Easy to delete an underperforming streaming service and pick up another one as necessary.

Superbox Update

The Superbox Ultra I bought a couple of weeks ago is working fine. I disconnected the Xfinity box totally on Wednesday and today I am going to take it to the Xfinity office, return it, and cancel Cable TV.

As far as I can see, there is nothing it does not get. It gets every NFL football game across the country. From Florida, I can get the all Boston stations and WMUR. (I will try to not enjoy watching the Boston weather when snow storms are happening, especially on Florida boating days!) :)

The box was $329 so if something goes wrong with it in a few months just the savings on cable TV should have more than paid for it. It is a chance worth taking.

WalMart has them but I think it is a stripped down version from what I got. This one on Amazon looks a little upgraded from mine. If you get one, watch the Youtube installation video. I found it very helpful.

So, this $329 Max SS7 super box ultra w/ voice remote from Amazon ........ will it get The Carol Burnett Show and The Twilight Zone without a cable-tv hook-up but via the internet, instead?

Does it have a reset feature that will set it back to factory specs if it gets scrambled?

That is over my head. I don't know that. There is a way to do a factory reset of the Superbox by pressing a series of .0.0.0 Etc. I am not sure what that accomplishes.

You can probably get Murder She Wrote and Columbo too.

TiltonBB 11-21-2025 08:24 PM

Just a quick update: I returned the Xfinity cable TV box today. While I was there, Xfinity offered to take over my cellphone, unlimited use for one year, no commitment, using Verizon towers, for free. That seems too good to be true but I will probably do it..

Woodsy 11-23-2025 09:03 PM

Tilton...

Comcast made me a deal I couldn't say no to when they came into the condo complex. I left Verizon (i was an OG customer for Bell Atlantic Mobile). The phone seems to work good bouncing off the Verizon towers. Data can be hit or miss, usually have 3+bars @5G but sometimes it drops down to LTE. I assume this is due to Verizon throttling the data. All in all, I am pretty pleased with it.

Woodsy

fatlazyless 11-23-2025 11:49 PM

........ hellooooooo Carol Burnett!

Carol Burnett is 92 years old and will soon be returning by popular demand to host her weekly, totally live, one hour variety show starring herself.

Named "Back Again with Carol Burnett!" ........ ........ she's coming back ........ honestly! .... ;) ... and Dick Van Dyke, almost 100, is onboard, too ....... a really old show!

Alternative IPTV devices

You may want to read the attached article on IPTV alternatives to Superbox. Please note it's a bit outdated and may have a few technology change since.

https://troypoint.com/superbox-alternatives/

I have been very happy with the latest firestick 4K Max. When it first came out last year, they had an excellent firestick trade in program that I took advantage to get a super deal on the upgrade. Easy to jail brake and easy to download jail break apps. Using a VPN helps prevent IP providers from finding you.
