Peppers Forum Festers.....

I had the pleasure of eating one of the last lobster rolls to come out of Pepper's kitchen last Fall.....so I think all would agree I should have the first lobster roll of the coming Spring! OK OK OK I thought I'd try just in case. I just hope the lobsters are ready for an early opening. Hope to see all there!

Pepper 03-07-2006 08:53 PM

It would be my distinct pleasure, and indeed honor to play host to a mini forum fest! :) A perfect opportunity to see so many wonderful friends all at once! :D I will advise as soon as I'm certain what day we'll reopen. ;) Very much looking forward to seeing all of you - I need my hugs really bad!

SIKSUKR 03-08-2006 01:35 PM

A hug you shall get from me.From you I expect one of those MONSTER submarine sandwiches and the usual Pepper smile!!

Merrymeeting 03-08-2006 03:02 PM

And I am ashamed to admit that I've never had the pleasure of tasting one of Pepper's creations since we rarely get to that side of the lake.

But I've been looking for an excuse to get there. Looks like I found one!

Island Girl 03-08-2006 03:27 PM

I'll be visiting the area to plan for this summer on March 19 & 20th but I think that may be too soon to join the fun!!

DBA 03-08-2006 09:38 PM

I can't wait...

Pepper,
I think it is appropriate that my first post to the forum be sent to you letting you know I will be lookin' for lobsta' :liplick: , too, when you are ready to begin this 2006 season. I can now officially be counted as a forum member and hugs will be given and received!
DBA

DRH 03-08-2006 09:49 PM

I'll be there too, Pepper!

When did you say you're putting on that addition?

Welcome, DBA, to the Forum! And thanks for those wonderful Rattlesnake Island ice-out photos.

Pepper 03-09-2006 01:42 AM

WOW! This is gonna be FUN! :D

I'm really looking forward to seeing all my friends again, and especially happy to have an opportunity to meet and feed a few new ones too!

Merrymeeting - we had just a brief introduction last year at Garwoods, so it'll be nice to have a moment to get to know you this time.

DBA - A huge welcome to the forum, and a great big thank you for your fabulous photographs! I can tell already that we're going to be great friends, just by your signature line - what an absolutely perfect definition of peace. :)

GravyBoat -:) you bet I'm looking forward to seeing you! We've shared far too much sadness this winter, and it's time to emerge and welcome the joys of spring - don't you think?

SunsetBob - it'll be wonderful to see you, too! I hardly got a chance to speak with you at the forum fest last fall, so it'll be great to see you again!

IslandSib - don't you worry your pretty little head, because we could NEVER forget you!!!!!

DRH - Oh how I would LOVE to put on an addition! I think the landlord might be happy to have a bigger building to charge rent in too, but I doubt the city would be all that cooperative! :rolleye2: I do have some wonderfully handy friends, though, so if the opportunity ever arose I know just who to call! ;)

IslandGirl - you're hired!

Rattlesnake Gal 03-09-2006 09:14 AM

Springfest Sounds Like Just The Thing - Good Idea IG!

Depending on the timing, R-Guy and I will be there too!
(Once “ice-out” occurs, it’s hard to get me away from the island! )
Pepper, I hope you had a wonderful Caribbean cruise! Welcome home. Looking forward to seeing you and Waldo very soon! :D

Pepper 03-09-2006 10:30 AM

Rattlesnake Gal and Guy

Waddaya mean depending on the timing? Girl, I'll grab a friend of mine who has this really cool airboat, and we'll drag your butts off that island if we have to!

We did indeed have a wonderful vacation, and returned exhausted and happy. I'll be much happier when we get the doors open and I get to see all my wonderful friends again!!!!! :D

Woodsy 03-09-2006 10:49 AM

I gotta travel to Belmont to get decent pizza! I miss the neighborhood pizza place! Open soon! Please!

It will be great to see you open again soon!

Waldo Pepper's is THE place to meet
To talk and have great things to eat!
But before you can take your seat
A BIG hug from Pepper can't be beat!!!

Here's hoping you have a Great 2006 Season!!

I plan to come early and often.

Pepper 03-09-2006 11:31 AM

Woodsy - Ironically enough, I have to travel FROM Belmont to make great pizza! Soon, my friend. We will be open very soon!

Quilt Lady - you are too much! Thank you! :D

I'm so excited to see everybody!!!!!!!

Folks driving by will begin to notice a few subtle "signs of life" and those will continue daily! Hopefully we can get the water turned back on Monday sometime, and the phone will be in service again soon too. Propane tank is new and full, parkinglot scrub will be scheduled soon. Food orders are being organized, and I'll be seeing you all before you know it! :)

This event looks like one for the archives. There are so many great photographers on this site, I hope they take lots of pictures of this historic event and post some on the forum for those of us that wish we were there. How about a live web cam or if Pepper has web access we could have a real time thread. Have a great time.:liplick: :liplick:

Mini Fest

There will be more cameras at Pepper's that Saturday than there were at the Red Carpet on Oscar Night!!!

The Stars will be out that day... all decked out in their designer Winnipesaukee.Com shirts and name tags.. What an event....a happening...the lobsters will be fighting for a place in line to get to the steam pot...and if I can say this..Pepper will have her best buns..... (rolls) ready for the lobster roll production line. All the Forum "Folks" need to be there...or be square.

I doubt that any limo's will show up....but is there a chance there will be valet parking or a shuttle bus to ferry folks from parking lots around the Weirs Beach area? Will there be a need for crowd control?...something to think about....But back to the camera question....

I'll have my Nikon and a tripod and I know "IG" will have her camera and there will be many others....this will surely be one of the most "photographed" events since the Teutul's showed up at Bike Week with their Fire Bike. This may rival Teddy Roosevelt's visit to the Weirs in 1902.....and he didn't get hugs and lobster rolls from Pepper....or did he? I don't know, I wasn't there!! If there were tickets for this thing....scalpers would be roaming the streets asking more than front row seats at a Springsteen concert.

Thus far about 20 to 30 Forum Fester's have said they'd be there...now that doesn't constitute a mob....but there are weeks ahead for this thing to snowball....so let's get with it...this Mini Fest is gonna' be fun!!!

Pepper,
One couldn't have a better way to get a new season going than with all their best friends from the Winni forum. Myself and family are very hopeful to be able to attend this great affair with such a great bunch of people.

Well it's ABOUT TIME you showed your screenname around here!!!!!! :D I miss you and B and the girls, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing all of you again soon!

RLW - Indeed, who could possibly ask for a better "kickoff" to a season! This is amazing!!!! and for the record, I'm extremely grateful to all who are showing us their support!

Hermit Cover - I imagine our parking area will likely overflow if all these folks show up at once! Perhaps I'd better start making arrangements for some alternative parking!

If only it wasn't a Thusday (? 3/25/06 ?). I'm just guessing here, but I'll say it's a fair bet the there'll be plenty-o-parking at the Weirs, all you need is a shuttle bus. :) Then again, and I'm thinking of mcdude's horseboats here, perhaps you could hire some rock bass to tow some people from the Weirs to your locale. All you'll need is a barge, mebbe even a small rowboat, and some harnesses. I hear they (the rock bass union) will work for .... scale ... ;) :D

Ok Mac....enough of the Kaluha...Today Sunday is the 12th, meaning yesterday (Sat) was the 11th, making next Saturday the 18th (going to the Bruins game with my son that day) and thus two weeks hence would be the 25th, still a Saturday. Of course, your antique 1906 calendar with the picture of the Horseboat might have the 25th as a Thursday. Anyway, give the keys to Mee (not me, but I would be glad to drive you if necessary), tell her the date, and when she tells you to get in the car, get in the car and say "Yes Dear". It will be good practice for you.;)

(Ok, Mee, we just figured it out...you didn't get Mac back to the home soon enough, did you?) :rolleye2:

And Mac, here's a link to a calendar that seems to be pretty accurate as to what day of the week is what date...:look:

Well now I am happy ! I was told (person to remain nameless lest I be divorced) that said happening was on a Thurs. Now, assuming I survive this post, we will have to see what can be done. Time to book another rockbass towboat perhaps

ps - It ain't the Khalua, it's the Ketel One (I was corrected) ;)

pps - IG and UTS thx so much (arghh) , remind me to refill your drink glass this summer. Stop by anytime this summer :) No, seriously if you all need a libation, we have it :)

As much as I would like to go and eat & meet, I will not be able due to other commitments. But I promise I will stop in during the summer and introduce myself. (I just hope you'll still serve me after some of my controversial posts. I hope you're not a Nascar fan)

Does it matter which one ?? Khalua or Ketel One

Pepper,

Lacey and I will bring our flasks.........
Maybe we can both get up there for the Mini Fest..........
It sounds like so much fun........
Maybe you should rent FunSpot for the day !!!!!

GTO - looking forward to meeting you sometime this summer. No worries mate - I can hardly ever remember who's posts are controversial or not! ;) Besides that - we're all entitled to our own opinions and viewpoints, so controversial is "subjective".

Hey gang! With regard to time - I love IslandGirl's suggestion of "noonish" because it allows a bit of a window. ;) If everyone were to arrive all at one time, it could result in mayhem as we try to feed you all at once. You can all stay as long as you desire, and if everyone sort of staggers their arrival/ordering time, then there will be plenty of time for everyone to mingle, and will help us avert a chaos situation. :) Does that make sense?

Island Girl 03-20-2006 06:29 AM

Dress Warmly

Some of us will have to mingle outside to allow everyone the chance to be fed... and we will have to be patient... Pepper needs time for hugs too!

Lobster Roll !!!!!! Can't wait! :liplick: :liplick: :liplick:

Newbiesaukee 03-20-2006 08:57 AM

We will be coming up Sunday from Florida for a few days ( reservations made months ago and can't change for Forum Fest ) but what will your daily hours be after opening? We need our fix.

Southern Gulf

I had a long talk with Winnie and Peasaukee last week when I found them :look: :coolsm: playing in the Southern Gulf. They were swimming with a large Pod of 30 Dolphins. It was quite a sight as they circled my boat and did air dances.
Since W & P are still playing here, they will not be able to make your PepperFest. They do say Hi to all and want Pepper to save some lobster until May when they will do the great swim north.

Hermit Cover 03-21-2006 09:09 PM

Lobster 101....

Wikipedia tells us these things about the lobster....

They are animals, Arthropods, Crustaceans, Decapods and belong to the family Nephropidae.

Lobsters live in rocky, sandy,or muddy bottoms from the shoreline beyond the edge of the continental shelf. They are scavengers but also eat live fish, algae and eel-grass. Occasionally they will eat other lobsters, too.

An average adult weighs 1 1/2 to 2 lb. and is 9 inches long. The Guinness World Record for lobsters is 44.4 pounds and was caught in Nova Scotia.

Lobsters molt (shed their shells) 2-3 times per year while young, but only once a year or less when fully mature, about 4 to 7 years. After molting, the lobster, with their new soft shells, are very vulnerable and often fall prey to other lobsters and large fish like cod. Many lobsters live to be 50 years old.

The first pair of the lobster's 10 legs are claws and are used for hunting and fighting. The other eight legs are used for walking.

Lobsters are generally solitary animals.....they only share a burrow for love making.

Lobsters have a greenish or brownish organ called the "tomalley" that acts as a liver and pancreas-----a toxin filter.

But, is all this information important???? And how does this stuff about lobsters relate to Saturday's Mini Forum Fest at Pepper's. Here goes......

What I and many others really want to know is, "How does one make a lobster......ROLL??"

Quilt Lady 03-21-2006 09:41 PM

You take the tail, bend it down to the tip of the nose of the lobster, tuck in the claws, and then give a mighty shove...It's a long way from the seacost to Weirs Blvd.

Of course, we could pack a bunch up in crates, put them in a box car, and let our resident engineer McDude bring them over on the railroad...all aboard, McDude????

From "In Ancient Times" by FLboater
"Since Peasukee controlled the land, air and water, he caused a great upheaval of the land so that he could live with Winnie. The upheaval caused the McDude River to change course and not connect with the lake. Therefore Winnie could not return to the Atlantic by the way she came. The lake water to flow north of Peasukee’s mountain and Winnie did not know where the water went."
It's too bad that Pesaukee did that to the river because the Lobsters would have been able to swim to Waldo Peppers all by themselves .....and you know that the railroad isn't there anymore either. What about those land-locked lobstahs that arrived from the ocean with Winnie?

:rolleye1: BTW FLboater...next time you see Winnie and Pesaukee would you ask them how they got to Florida with the mcdude river being closed and all?

I'm sure Pepper will have plenty of lobsters. Regretfully, I won't be able to join you all that day but don't let that stop you from having a good time!

I'll stop in and see you, Pepper, when all of these other throngs of people aren't around and I can get my hug (s) (s)...:) with no interruptions! :look:

Have a great time! McD

From Chapter 5 of In Ancient Times
"At the end of summer, many returned to the south via the Merri River which was formed by the “Great upheaval”. Others stayed long enough to watch the trees change their colored coats. After getting their direction from the many birds that circled Winnie’s island, these neighbors would then go south by land and water. They became known as “snow birds”. They went to a sandy land called Florida and played on the water all winter. Some years the cousin of Peasaukee would cause great southern storms which cause the dwellers of Florida to run or hide until the storms passed. Other “snow birds” were forced to stay longer by the Great Spirits Smile until the great southern storms ended."

McDude, Guess you missed this chapter 5.

Today Winnie and Peasaukee were with me when we were visited by their friend Manny the Manatee. I did ask Manny if he was interested in going north with us and helping to eat the Milfoil. He answered that he didn't think the cold water would be good for him.

Sounds like it's going to be a great time - I'm really bummed I can't be there!
Please do take and post pics!

I'll be up in the area Friday but it will be a working/visit trip, my Dad (You might know him Pepper since he used to stop in just about every day during the season for lunch, "George") He's in a nursing home these days in Meredith, so I'll be visiting with him and my mom, then I have to start getting the condo ready for renters, so I don't think I'm even going to have time to drive past and toot! :( I work weekends sooo............

Pepper 03-22-2006 11:22 PM

Airwaves - I've sent you a private message with a special note for you and your dad! We love your father and hope to see him very soon. ;)

McDude - I'm crushed to learn that you will not be joining in the mini forum-fest, but am looking forward to having an uninterupted hug or two from you sometime soon! :D

rrr, BroadHopper and FLBoater - I'm sorry you three won't be able to join us in all the fun, but am certainly looking forward to seeing each of you over the summer as well. ;)

trfour 03-23-2006 10:13 PM

Wishing all a very Happy Waldo Pepper's Forum Fest!! :) :)

Regretfully, I can not attend.
Went in for a physical while here in Dallas- Fort Worth, and they found high calcium in my blood. The doctor told me that he had made me an appointment in the Nuclear medicine clinic for a bone density scan. So I told him, while he was at it, to put me in for a ride in the centrafuge so that I could get my astronauts license when I got out.:look:

Anyway, I can't get a release and have to stick around here incase they have to do more testing, and by the way, this is the first time that I have been on the working end of the wrench, If you get my drift :look:

I am looking foward to seeing you all very soon.

Have a blast and get those photosPosted!!!!

Love,
T.

Airwaves 03-23-2006 11:13 PM

Pepper 03-23-2006 11:29 PM

T - I'm so sad to learn that you cannot join us, but even sadder to learn that you're going through all that! Please keep me up to date, and let me know if there's anything I can do to be of help up here for you.

Be well!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will there be a temporary web cam?

I would love to meet you all but I can not make the long drive. Even though I rarely post I feel like I know many of you.

Will there be a temporary web cam so that those of us at home can check out the activities at Waldo Peppers tomorrow?

Have fun and enjoy a lobster roll and a hug for me. A frequent lurker.

Winterharborway 03-24-2006 02:59 PM

Sorry Can't make it!

hi everyone, I haven't posted in a while and haven't been to the Lake since Thanksgiving! I'm the one that brought my two parents to the forum gathering over the summer for those that may remember!

I was looking forward to seeing you all but won't be able to make it this weekend!

Have a great time and see you soon! Jennifer

I hope you all have a great time eating lobster rolls:liplick:
Can I please have one to go? I will gladly pay you Tuesday.

Give it to GH and I can have it for Sunday dinner.

Merrymeeting 03-25-2006 08:30 AM

Missing too

This is becoming a habit that I certainly want to break. I won't be able to make this one either. Pepper, I'd like a rain check for my first-visit hug later in the year.

My oldest is in her final high school play this weekend. 3 performances just not allowing time to make it to the lake and back in time.

I have no desire to be mentioned in future therapy sessions with my absence at her final performance being the reason for a lifetime of failure and misery :emb: So, I'll be staying close to home this weekend.

Have fun!

Silver Duck 03-25-2006 09:14 AM

Got room for two more?

I hadn't wanted to say anything until now, since my back has been giving me grief for the last couple of weeks. :( But things are a bit better today, so Betty and I are getting ready to head up in a few minutes.

See you all there!:D

Last call . . .

If you aren't on the road, you had better get your act together. The magic hour is fast approaching. Some of us planned this adventure well in advance: we had a sleep-over (with boys) so we would be ready to roll. Looking forward to seeing everyone in a little while!
PARTY ON!!!!:D :D :D

We did some serious damage to the lobster population today!

It was great to see so many forum members at Waldo's today. As usual I didn't have enough time to chat with everybody but it was nice to see some new faces that I can now associate with the aliases.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and a special thanks to Pepper for giving me the usual royal treatment. :)

Pepper 03-26-2006 12:22 AM

Today was, without question, one of the most lively and fun days in the history of Waldo Peppers. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with all of you, and want to thank all of you for helping us to start out our season with a BANG! :D It was a huge treat to see so many friends - and to see so many new friendships forged! I'm delighted that so many of you were able to stay all afternoon, because it allowed me to spend so much time with you! HUGS! :D

RG - I sure hope you're feeling better! We missed you!

McDude - sorry I couldn't figure out a way to set up a webcam. :rolleye2: We missed you too!!!

Mee-n-Mac - where the heck were you guys?????

GravyBoat - no excuses - unless Evan was skiing today! :)

Merrymeeting - your hug will be waiting when you get here. In fact, an extra one for being a great dad to your daughter! Good for you!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again to all - this was a day I will never forget! ;)

(What’s not to like - great friends and excellent food - the lobster rolls looks delish! :liplick: )

Thankfully I am feeling and looking much better. Thanks!
(Allergies are such a drag, especially when you can’t pinpoint what is causing them. )

Just Sold, thanks for calling to see how I was feeling and for filling me in on Pepper’s Mini Forum Fest! You’re a sweetie. :D

Hope to see everyone soon!

Mff

The Mini FF was really super and it was great to see old friends as well as some new ones too.

Pepper you are really the Hostess with the Mostes! Thanks for the wonderful hug which I passed along to Mrs. JS.

Can't wait to see IG's, Hermit Cove's, Upthesaukee's and others photos posted. So far the Lobster Roll posts look as good as the one I had. I will post a couple I took of Paugus Bay on the way home.

RG - glad to hear you are better today. :)

Babes On Sleds at PepperFest

The "Babes on Sleds" aren't grumpy anymore, even though the winter was a dud for snowmobiling. Waldo Peppers is now open for the 2006 season and the "Babes" are all smiles.

Of course, the red-headed "Babe" in the middle is always all smiles (and hugs too!):laugh::laugh:

Taken at "PepperFest", March 25, 2006.

No literally ! A marauding band of crustaceans apparently heard of the upcoming MFF and decided that they couldn't just stand by and, well to more precise ... lie around and, let such lobstacide go on unchallenged. Late that AM the doorbell rings and a voice announces "Candygram, candygram for miss ....". So I open the door (OK, admittedly not my brightest moment) and was immediately overrun by a flock ... errr ... school ... hmmm ... gaggle ... no no ... a pod of, well, arthropods. And might I say not too friendly either. All I remember is a flurry of claws and pinchers and 1 particularly forceful tail slap and faster than butter melts, we were tied up in the dining room chairs. I asked them why they were being so crabby but apparently this was not the right thing to say. :rolleye1: I guess they took that as some kind on joke about the inlaws. In any case it was looking kinda grim but luckily "Mee" had been preparing some food in the kitchen and when that pot of water boiled over ... well they just freaked right out ! It was all tail over antenna the way they scuttled on out. One of them molted his shell right on the spot ! Of course with no opposable thumb, their knot tying skills were, to be blunt, bottom feeder quality and so after an hour we were able to free ourselves. :coolsm: But by the time we were done with the legal (seafood) people and cleaned up the molting it was too late to make it to the MFF. Had it not been for some extreme exoskeleton behavior, we would have been there. ;) Or ....

We had a prior dinner engagement. "Mee" had planned one of her gourmet fetes and despite any and all wriggling we just couldn't get out of it. :( We thought about swinging by, but with people coming over @ 4:30 it would have been an unforgiving schedule. But it appears a great time was had by all, well all that weren't of the family Nephropidae ;) I predict another MFF sometime this boating season, which judging from the retreating ice, will be starting later this week. Perhaps by then you'll have the previously mentioned Pepper's nautical delivery system up 'n' running. :liplick:

ps - A MFF, a novel way to handle your stalker problem ... but judging by the pictures, I think they are multiplying in numbers.

Pepper 03-27-2006 11:44 PM

Mee-n-Mac - I'm laughing too hard to be mad at you for not showing!

Anytime y'all are up for another MFF - we're game. ;)

Gotta hit the sack - lotsa prep to do in the morning!
