Indian restaurant
I recently discovered I really enjoy eating at Indian restaurants: there are quite a few to choose from here Out West, and I'll be looking for one next time I head east to the big lake for a visit.
But I can't seem to find any on Yelp in the area: Concord and Manchester for sure. Are there any good Indian restaurants in the lakes region? Love that butter chicken and aloo gobi. |
Indian food in Lakes Region
Not much north of Concord. Lemon Grass in Center Harbor is mostly Thai food but has some curry. And the only other that I know of is in North Conway, Shalimar. Thankfully I work in Concord and can get both lunch and dinner from Curry Leaf.

Would love a good Indian restaurant in lakes region but not sure it could survive the winter

Try Durbar Square Restaurant in Portsmouth. Family owned Nepalese restaurant. We went there several years ago and enjoyed a delicious, spicy dinner. Maybe close to Indian?

The difference between Thai and Indian curries is that Thai is coconut based and Indian is onion. I prefer Indian.
The old Phu Jee in Meredith would make a convenient location. A spicy vindaloo, please. |

In my experience it is less sauce based and more vegetarian: I enjoy both styles of cuisine. |
There is a Taste of India in Dover. Although I haven’t been there yet, I saw they have won awards from food publications.

I will have my Indian fix Sunday before i come to the lake and it will tide me over until September

Curry Leaf
Try Curry Leaf in Concord. Right downtown.
Lunch menu till 3PM. App, 1-2 entrees rice and order yourself a bread for cheap. They are very good. Small-ish, obviously it's one family working there, and they really make sure all is well. You're out for $40 all-in for two of you, and it rivals Boston area Indian restaurant quality. Two years or so old, we googled Indian for a long while and Dover was always closest. This is 25 minutes away and a great choice for 2x a month visits to satisfy the indian fix. FYI - One Naan for two people is all you need as they are huge. Also try the Dal Makhani - doesn't matter if you are a vegetarian or not it's the best thing we've had. |
