Loon asylum near Echo Point

Yesterday as I was driving by the boat ramp there were approximately 10 loon gathered in the water near by. I have never seen that many at one time on the lake. Quite a site.

You probably know they gather before they fly south so you often see a lot in late fall, something we don't see in the summer. The juveniles are usually the last to leave. I was interested to hear that people saw a group or groups gathered last summer though because this is unusual behavior. I don't know if they have figured out why.

I just watched a lone loon swimming around the Glendale docks diving for fish.

If it doesn’t leave soon, it won’t make it as not enough open water for it to take off…Hopefully the loon center is monitoring this one….

I think I read that the Loon Center requests you to call them if there is a loon still on the lake when the ice is forming.
