Winnipesaukee Forum - Another Boating Accident/BWI

This is just so wrong in so many ways that I'm in awe that evolution was cheated that night. I hate to pass judgement on that basis of a news story (the speed sounds fishy to me) but even allowing for that, well they're lucky nobody was more seriously injuried.

1) BUI (if true) - this speaks for itself but at night even more so.
2) Leaving in face of a impending storm - again at night, not the best decision but perhaps it wasn't too bad weatherwise when they set out. Still if you're going to do this then you need to actively navigate by GPS or compass. You can't rely on sight.
3) Running 25 mph (if true) in grayed out conditions (if true). Actually given they pushed the boat off the rocks, and it floated, this seems fishy. I'll SWAG they weren't going that fast when they ran aground.
4) Not reversing course when it got so bad you couldn't see and didn't know where you are and aren't actively navigating.
5) Apparently not navigating as above since they ran into something and didn't know what/where it was. It's one thing to think you know where you are and be wrong and another when you just don't know where you are and are hoping for the best. Then again I hope I'm reading too much into the "5-10 minutes where we didn't know where to go" quote.
6) Pushing boat off rocks after a collision and proceeding into deep water in a storm, not knowing where to go, with an injured person no less. How did they make the assessment that the boat was still seaworthy in the dark and rain ? I can understand the desire to make it to shore to help the injured person but I dunno, time to call for help methinks.

Anyway there's some lessons to be learned here, probably more than I've listed.
