GAS price rundown please
 

Coming up and need to know if it is worth hauling my portable gas tank with me - to fill off lake and use at the house instead of filling at Marinas. What's the rundown of gas prices - especially on North/Northeast side - Center Harbor to Wolfeboro. Thanks :rolleye1:

Not really in the area you mentioned, but Mountain View was 2.649 on Wednesday.

Pier 19 was $2.799 last weekend :eek:

As suspected :emb: - we'll be throwing the mobile gas tank in the back of the truck!! I can fill it down here for 2.29 gallon! :D

Why haul?
 

The prices being quoted above are from marinas and places that pump for boats. Rather than traveling with a large quantity of extra gas, why not fill that tank at one of the roadside (regular) stations? Last I checked, the stations were priced comparable to those down here in PA. And the price advantage of 5-10 cents a gallon would be lost by hauling it. Just a thought.

I "migrate" between Florida and Winnipesaukee with just one gallon in my truck's bed — and that quantity makes me nervous!

Anyway...remember to "ground" the tank when you fill it.

During the gas crisis of 1978, the family's trip to Winnipesaukee from Florida had to be made in 24 hours. Gas stations would only pump to [my] even-numbered tags on the day I was to be traveling.

I put 12 gallons of full spare gasoline tanks into the van, confidant of making the 28-hour trip without being stuck -- and did make it OK.

I reasoned that gasoline stored outside on the roof would have posed a danger (heat-expansion, theft, leaks) but still uncomfortable carrying it anyway. Why we didn't simply spend the money for a motel stay eludes me. Though PA is not Winnipesaukee, it still would have been a day away from work.

There was no discussion of static electricity hazard back then (or the ostensible cellphone hazard). Please pardon the avuncular theme of the message.

I will save "some" money - enough to probably buy that extra LOBSTER :liplick: dinner of three....as for the grounding - thanks for the "reminder" - next you'll be reminding me to make sure the cap is on tight!!! :eek:

Back in the days of case crisis in the early 70's I lost a class mate who was carrying extra gas in his car. He was involved in an acident and the can exploded. No a pretty sight.

By the way I have been told that a full can is safer than an empty because there are less fumes. It is the fumes that burn not the liquid.

I will be making the trek up to the BIG lake next weekend and will be doing the gas runs to get fuel for the GTX and boat 10-15 gallons at a time.

Please make sure the weather is nice I am sick of the heat here in NJ.

I filled up on Wednesday at Lakeport Landing @ $2.40. Now I'm glad I did!

It would be great if we had a thread just to post gas prices around the lake.
Would even be better if there could be a mechanism to show a table with all the fueling areas and current prices that could be input by forum readers as they get their fill-ups.

This could possibly pressure prices down some, who knows. At least it would help us find the best deals.

Thanks....and sorry about the duplication.

Lakeport is a 12 mile trip so it's good to get a good spread.

Lakeport landing is listed as "0" octane...maybe that's why it's the cheapest ;)

When comparing gas prices don't forget to subtract the 18 cent a gallon rebate. That makes $2.50 per gallon price on the lake $2.32. For 89 Octane, thats not too bad. In my book, for a few cents a gallon it is certainly not worth the risk of hauling it around in a plastic container. If you are in a marina, most do not allow you to fill from a container.
