Moultonborough Transfer Station

I was looking at the town website for the Transfer Station and it didn't seem to offer much information unless I missed it. I was wondering if they take things like air conditioners, old TV's etc. Also can you recycle all types of automotive fluids there? Is there a fee for this stuff over and above buying the yearly window pass? I bring everything home with me now and never utilize their services, haven't been in there in a good 15 years. Thanks!

They will take the ac, tv, refrige, computers, for a fee. The town puts on a day where you can dispose of paint and other fluids at the DPW behind the park off the Neck Rd..you'd have to look up and see what days they're doing that. Are you a full time resident? I'm not a full time resident, but, I do get the Moultonborough news from Town Hall at my permanent residence , maybe with my tax bill? Can't remember, but anyhoo, it has a lot of that info on it...hope this helps :) You could always call ....it's quite the transfer station..offers everything :)

dpg 07-28-2015 11:41 AM

Thanks Jetlag not full time I get the typical inserts in bills and things and maybe just maybe I should start paying more attention to them!!

The one thing I miss was in times past is the "Dump Picking". Talk about GOOD STUFF CHEAP!

For years I supplied My IT department with usable PCs, Monitors and Printers. Some are still in use today.

Bring back the good old Days!

Shreddy 07-28-2015 01:42 PM

The best part is that they have a MONEY view, it's very scenic...doesn't quite seem like you're at the dump (I stress the word quite)

SAMIAM 07-29-2015 09:01 AM

They should build some condo's there.....beautiful view.

Yeah but, if the condo's are "dump" I wouldn't want to live there..

;)

I wonder if the new condos would qualify for a "view tax"

Transfer station attendants ---

Are exemplary. 30 years ago, or so, they were grumpy men.

VitaBene 07-30-2015 08:01 AM

Yes every single person there is great... Thanks!!

Though I would love to be able to single stream recycle here!

I remember going with my Dad back in the 60's, and there was a guy that would rummage through all the stuff we brought....checking it out for copper, or anything that would bring him $$$...had a joke about bringing him a sub sandwich, for years...he, was GRUMPY!!!!

That was "Clarence", he had picking rights in exchange for running the dump, you will notice a sign (or there used to be one) that says "Mt Clarence" at the dump. It was placed on top of the original dump area.

Greene's Basin Girl 07-30-2015 06:28 PM

I remember a guy who use to run the transfer station (he has since passed away). Many people thought he was grumpy. Unfortunately I can not remember his name, but I know his name was not Clarence. I do remember how much he loved his granddaughter. One year he bought her a horse.

Perhaps I am older than you and remember back farther. I remember a Gerald that came later on, lived on Bean Road, just below the Old Red Hill Road intersection. I think Clarence lived on Lee Road, near the current Buckeys, I believe his "shack" was replaced by the current mini golf. He build his house out of salvaged materials he got from his picking rights. just a faint memory tho. Nostalgia is great, give me the old days, please :) No offense meant, GBG

Moultonborough refuse gardens....

The Moultonborough transfer station does take waste oil. They heat with it.

The place is spick and span and the staff are helpful and courteous.

It is my social event of the week! Always someone to chat with and I always pick up some business while there.

During the busy "tourist" season I am under a gag order from the guys because they say that I slow up the flow!

I remember him well but won't name him.......would absolutely flip out if he found any metal or glass in the garbage.........had a misspelled sign with an arrow that said "GARABAGE"

WakeboardMom 07-31-2015 01:50 PM

In 2007 we tore down a "mobile home" on our lot in Moultonborough. My husband took the one-piece bathtub to the transfer station and the attendant asked, "1982?" My husband said, "Excuse me?" The attendant replied, "Is your trailer a 1982? I have the same bathtub." LOL...we bought ours in 1983...amazing!

August 1 - hazardous waste day in Moultonborough

This Saturday (8/1), you can get rid of hazardous waste from 8:30 till noon at the Moultonborough Town Garage, off of Moultonborough Neck Road. Things like drain opener, floor cleaner, oven cleaner, roofing tar, cesspool cleaner, pesticides and more will be accepted. No latex paint, tires, or radioactive waste. This is a good time to clean out behind the garage.

Check out the details at this web page: http://moultonborough.org/Pages/Moul...8CC75-000F8513

I think "spot checking" is a little extreme I don't need (or want) someone "checking" my rubbish. I mean come on...

DPG, I think the guys would prefer to not do so as well, but if they did not we both know more recycling would go in the trash and we would pay more to get rid of it!

Totally agree...How much MORE recycling are they forcing by doing this .0001% ?? Big deal. People that want to recycle will, those that do not will find a way not too.

They don't go through anyone's garbage but if they hear a pile of cans and bottles clanking around when you take your trash out of your car, they may give it a tap and tell you to separate.

That's different, I suppose, but at my town's transfer station the workers took a video of going through some people's trash to show how much recycling "could have been done" to push the "need to recycle." I, and many of my neighbors, were extremely upset about it. Weird, maybe, but there's something personal about one's garbage.

When they first closed the landfill and started the transfer Station you used to see them get after people about recycling...... Mainly I believe it was to get people in the habit of doing so. In recent years I have not seen any of that activity, Unless as Vita Bene, mentioned they here some clanking going on....

The demeanor at the dump is completly changed from what it was 20-25 years ago, the grump old buggers are gone, and everyone is very friendly and helpful... Hell sometimes I don't even make it to the dumpster, because they take the trash for me so I can head to the recycling.....

I imagine, too, that if I were on the staff there, I'd find myself noting which people were making trips from the vehicle both to the recycle building and to the general trash shutes. These folks likely are doing a fine job of separating out the recyclables. Those who come without any recycles but only bagged "general trash and garbage" might be suspected of not separating, and then I'd at least be listening for clanking sounds. The staff may be treading that fine line between what's perceived as harrassment and simply enforcing the rules.

Ken is employed at the transfer station in Moultonborough. He is so kind, friendly and helpful. He is also excellent at restoring furniture. The transfer station does not run as smoothly when Ken is on vacation. He is a Moultonborough treasure!!

Greene's Basin Girl 10-13-2015 03:58 PM

I just spoke to Ken at the Moultonborough transfer station. Sometime after the first of the year the station will have single streaming. You will dump your regular garbage as usual. All other materials ( cans, glass, plastic, paper, and cardboard) will all be dumped together in one bin. It be shipped and separated elsewhere. The process will make my life and the life of the transfer employees much easier.
