Help With This Harness!
 

Hi,
Can someone explain how to hook this harness up to my pontoon? I was expecting it to have just the hooks at the end, to clip onto the toons, but there's another foot or so of rope with a hoop at the end of each hook.

Without seeing the whole thing, I would say put the loop thru the U bolts on the back of the boat and clip the loop. It looks like plastic tubing to reduce rope chaffing.

That's what I was thinking, but I'm not confident the rope/knots will fit through pontoon hoop. It's the same on two ends, by the way, with a quick connect at the third end.

I'd say you got it right. The main part of the harness is very thick, so it would require hooking the loop to divide the strain at the ends.

If one used the loop (only), a great deal of strain would be placed on that single polyethylene-line splice. The hook's attachment doesn't appear to be designed for taking all the strain, either.

These instruction are not helpful at all. I agree with the poster that suggested putting the loops through the eyes, if they fit. If they do not fit, the only option is to hook it directly with the metal hooks. I believe it is designed for two connections, one on each side of the motor or outdrive. Good luck and stay safe!

I agree... This in my opinion is really not the best design I have seen... To be honest growing up we always had great luck with a harness like this:

I'm thinking of returning this and just using the ski bar, which worked very well last week.
