How to Fix a New EPA Gas Can...
1 Attachment(s)
There's something wrong with the new EPA gas cans? (Mine are all old, I guess).
The video is too long to address the simple subject matter, but shows an easy fix for the problem of pouring from the newer EPA gas containers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lcnwdIYEfI Notice his collection of gas cans in the background. The old gas can displayed briefly in the video had faded to an orange color on top. Last winter, I sawed a faded plastic gas can in half just to peek inside. The only negative observation was that plastic shavings from the time of manufacture had resided inside for years. One half was left outdoors in a sunny spot, and the other half was put in a permanently shaded area—also outdoors. The shaded half, exposed only to rain water, self-destructed, which suggests a possible problem with faded gas cans. (Photo below). Another handy YouTube video showed the use of the same automobile tire valve to refurbish old, rusty, and/or deflated spray cans. In the video, he recommends refilling at 90 to 100 psi! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqwSg9sZZOI I had a used tire valve lying around, and the trick works! :) |
ApS, that was great

I've done the valve stem fix to gas cans before, works great. One word of caution, don't use a spade bit to make the hole, it can easily catch and make an oval hole that's pretty darn near impossible to seal.
Anyone know of a RTV-like sealant to works with E10 gas? Blue and black Permatex both failed. |
Wanted to add, if you do end up screwing up the hole, and it's not bigger than 5/8", you can fix it with a TR415 style valve stem that fits a 5/8" hole.

Alternatively, you can drive up to Sherbrooke, have a nice lunch, go to a Canadian hardware store and buy gas cans that just work.

Here is what i used.I changed 3 cans after spilling more fuel from these "enviro friendly"cans.
They won't ship to certain states like,of course the clowns(Cali) that mandated this crap but I bought mine throgh Ruralking.com.They work fantastic. http://ezpourspout.com/ |
So two problems with the ez pour spout.
One, they only work on "certain" gas cans manufactured BEFORE 2009. That's of no use if it's being used on a new can. Second, you cannot get the gas can spouts shipped to CA, CT, Washington DC, DE, ME, MD, MA, NH, NJ, NY, OH and VA. However the water spouts can be shipped to all of the above and look like they would fit just fine. You're better off just buying one of these new "complaint" gas cans and modifying them to work correctly. |
plenty available
I ordered some on eBay, got them (in MA) in a few days and they fit my newer Blitz cans just fine. The one I bought comes with two different main caps to fit different threads. I will be ordering more.

Gas can
God Bless America!!!. I've spilt more gas than ever since I've had to use these new ones. I loved his comment. "If you don't know what bailing wire is you not going to need this fix"...lol
Great |
Speaking of gas, I was filling my car gas tank today and I told the guy next to me that the price of gas is going down and also that the stock market was going down with it. So he says: "It just makes it easier to drive to the poor house".
