Unexplored places
I was watching some you tube videos from the forum site and came across one of a trip through Sally's gut. This looks like a cool little trip but a bit tight for a first timer. Does any one have any experience running the gut and is it as tight as it looks?

I've been through there in my 18' SeaRay. You need to be vigilant as you enter. You'll see several submerged rocks with witness marks from hull or out drive contact. Boat traffic can make for a tight squeeze.
It's pretty in there and someone has a Golden (maybe a Lab?) that sits on a dock staring at its ball in the water. I think passers by of the breed "Human Retriever" are fooled into getting the ball and tossing it to the dog. Then the dog drops it off the dock again. :rolleye2: |

Not too bad
I went through several times with my 34 Silverton with a 12' 6" beam. It's no big deal, you just have to pay attention. It is certainly a different looking part of the lake.

Ben, my boats looks about the same size as yours. I've been through a bunch of times. If you meet someone coming the other way you may have to stop and wait for a few seconds. There are a couple spots where two boats side by side is tight. There isn't a lot of room for error, and the markers are not always in the right spots, but the shallow spots are obvious.

Agreed, regarding spots being obvious. The water in there is crystal clear every time I go through and it's easy to see where not to go.

Don (webmaster) posted a video shot from a boat going through there, a couple years ago. It shows how nice that area is.

The video is on YouTube. Just click on the YouTube Channel tab above and search for "Sally's Gut".

We enjoy bringing guests through the Gut...
...We like to take friends/relatives who haven't been on the lake before through Sally's Gut. People always seem to say that it feels like they're on a jungle ride at Disney. :eek2: The first time through can be a little apprehensive, but after that it's fine. The outlet on the Spindle Point side is wider and a little deeper than the outlet on the backside of Stonedam, which is narrow and rocks on both sides. As others have said, go slow and be vigilant and you'll be fine.

A little less intimidating is a trip through The Hole in the Wall:

How about the graveyard? It is stuck right out in the middle of the bay.

Easy
Very easy to see the rocks...not to worry!

I have taken a 34' Sea Ray amberjack thru Sally's, no problem.
