Kitchen stove vent help . . . please

We have a fairly new house. The vent, over the kitchen stove, is vented out a wall into a porch area which is screened in the summer and somewhat enclosed, in the winter, then out through the roof of the porch. The venting material looks to be "stove-pipe".

I think there's something amiss, as one can smell the odor of what ever is being pulled out of the stove, in the porch, rather strongly. Further when it's cold (and when hasn't it been, lately) the chill blows in through the vent and into our kitchen. Unpleasant and expensive.

Seems to be a contradictory problem ... cold air coming in ... cooking odors not going out ....

I've tried to get help from a few local HVAC people without success. Perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Can you recommend a person or company which would fix the problem?

By the way, I'm old and fat and I'm not climbing up on that porch roof . . . .
come hell or high water.

It sounds like you have a back draft damper problem. It could be that it's stuck closed or not properly installed.

Try Bill at 524-9343.......He is a plumber and HVAC guy and very clever at solving problems, he probably won't take the job if he's busy, but if he has some time, he might help you out. Worth a try.

We have used Crown Appliance a number of times. I would bet they could either fix it or point you in the right direction.

Very nice people! They are in Center Harbor

Thank you

for the suggestions.

I'll wait for the snow to melt from the porch roof, then make the calls.
At the rate of warming, that might be in June.

I called Crown. Very nice folks. Said they didn't do that kind of
work but gave me Mark Dadian's number (527 0077). Mark came over and checked the vent, told me there was nothing wrong except to seal the pipe sections with tape (to prevent air getting out). He would have done it but didn't have black tape (black pipe).
Mark was professional and VERY reasonable. Also a very funny guy!

Thanks for all the suggestions.
