Meredith taxes can now be paid by credit card

I was excited to learn I could now pay my Meredith taxes online using a credit card. For those responsible credit card users it would be a great way to get some reward points. Well, not so fast. There is a 2.95% processing fee which will more than offset any rewads you'd get for using the credit card. Once I found this out the check was in the mail. :(

It does state this processing fee on the payment site but if you are not really paying attention and just clicking through to get to the paymnet information screen you might miss it.

So let's see...

Property owner pays via credit card.
Then pays 2.95% surcharge for using the credit card.
Then carries the balance on the card paying the credit card company 19% interest.
Then the next tax bill comes...

Registration Fees

I notice the same for any registration fees at Laconia clerk office.

I stopped ordering checks a while ago and use ATM/Credit card, Paypal and PopMoney exclusively. When I paid my auto/boat/trailer registration this extra fee popped up on my statement. Looks like I will be ordering checks again :(

The original poster used the word "responsible" :rolleye2:. You would be correct if the payor was irresponsible, paid the nearly 3% interest and then ended up with a maxed out credit card, and was only able to pay the minimum :laugh:.
