http://i40.tinypic.com/jgmvsy.jpg Is that guy wearing loafers on a bike? LOL> |
I was living in Laconia.
It was all over town! The residents were told to stay home. Its a huge event back in the days.

FBI Report of the incident
This report was declassified by the FBI.. heavilly redacted, but still some interesting reading.
I was a freshman in High School in Saugus, MA. I recall that it made some of the local newspapers in the Boston area. ( I was a "paperboy" for the "Record American" and the "Boston Globe" at that time.) This is interesting: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...47380653,d.dmg |
Don't you just love the total Freedom of Information? Too bad someone invented the black marker.
|
And now you see mothers pushing baby strollers and youngsters eating ice cream cones watching girls in bikinis on the back of sport bikes.

I think this has been posted before.
I was there. I got hit in the butt by a bayonet (?) while being forced to get out of the car as they cleared the streets. As I got out I bent over to pick up the contents of my spilled pocketbook and that is when he hit me. I had a huge black and blue. I don't know if I was ever so scared in my live. We had to run as they cleared and we didn't know where to run to. They wouldn't let us drive away in the car. As we ran there were firecrackers going off everywhere, you didn't know where to step. We had missed most of the rioting as we arrived late and didn't realize what was going on. We arrived as the National Guard was coming down the street and thought we could just wait in the car 'til they moved through. Oh no!! |
Yeah right Tis. :rolleye2: We all know you were a Rebel. ;)

I wasn't a rebel then, Lakes, I was too young. But I am now. |
I was there too. Senior in high school. We were scared s---less! Got out of there in a hurry.
|
We were scared sl, too, barefoot. But the National Guard had trapped our car and we had no way to leave. We asked them if we could just drive away, but they wouldn't let us, they made us (all 4 of us) get out. That is when I got hit. I was in the backseat. Ever tried to get out of the backseat of a VW Bug in a hurry? We ran to the end of the street-we had to, the Guard was doing the sweep. I remember somebody let me sit in his car-he was a Boston cop. I felt liked he was my guardian angel at the time. It was really scary. I wondered if I would ever get home.
|
tis I guess we were luckier than you. All I remember is cars tipped over on fire , bikers swinging chains around and the national guard clubbing them. A fun summer night in the Weirs .lol

trying to find the newstory
I remember reading that law enforcement played a big part in the blame. No one had training on crowd control or riot control for that matter. Since then law enforcement are trained and any scrimmage are quickly dispersed. Also limiting traffic made a difference as well.

Anybody remember
The whole thing?
