A small rowboat? With two teenagers? In today's wind and rough (whitecap all day long) seas? And colder than usual water temperatures?

What's going on?

update

Laconia and Alton Boat dispatched 1024pm told to search on way to camp isle. Looking for 15' white center console occupied x2. Earlier reported as red white and blue. Wind is blowing camp island towards broads however

According to Lakes Region Fire @ 10PM, they are in a 15 foot center console boat, white in color. Apparently they are from and were operating in the area of Camp Island. Laconia, Gilford, and Alton Fire as well as the Marine Patrol are currently searching. Late flash 10:30PM....the two people have returned to Camp Island and the search is terminated.

Found safe... Amen.

Boaters found safe ashore on camp island just now. Alton Fire, Laconia Fire and NHMP all available now and Gilford FD going ashore to check boaters... I love a happy ending. Stay safe people

That's good news, indeed! Now, for lessons learned:

IF the teenagers took the boat out without notification, then that's a serious lack of judgment.

BUT, if their parents gave them permission, then that's even more serious. Certain things in life simply don't mix well. Oil and water. Alcohol and driving. Teenagers, a boat, wind and high waves. BTW, who set the expectation: "Expected to be back before dark"?

And what about communication? No cell phones aboard? No visual or audio ways of communicating?

I certainly hope lessons will be learned from this. Otherwise, all the search and rescue efforts were undertaken for naught.

Bravo! That is an incredible rescue response! My hats off to them.

It seems unclear at the moment whether the two boaters had returned and never checked in, causing panic, or were they escorted back by rescue personnel?

Either way, home safe is home safe.

It was reported that the mother called in that they came back. They were not escorted back. Right before they did call in to 911, I did notice a boat going arcoss from the Long Island area toward Camp Island. Wierd thing was that the Fire boat was looking around timber island for them. Would have thought they would have been toward the Broads, I know radar on the Marine Patrol showed nothing initially but......

...but just barely...wanted to say about the same thing. Tongue is really sore from biting it.

If too many people can flip an island the size of Guam, I'm sure a strong wind can blow a tiny island like Camp around :D:D
