Lakehouse Grill/Church Landing
took my lovely young bride out to lakehouse grill at church landing for her b-day on sunday. thought i'd post up our findings/review.
appetizer was lobster empanadas. bland, no flavor, not sure if there was even lobster in them. just flecks of mystery red meat-like substance. $8 for 4 of em (they're small too). not recommended. for dinner we each had the kobe burger. it was good.. nothing spectacular. the bacon on it was notably good though. the sauce on the burger was decent, but definitely different. not sure what it was exactly. the fries that came with the burgers weren't traditional fries. they were sliced potatoes, like wedges. those were pretty good. i had 1 sam adams and she had 1 mixed drink (we're not drinkers). both of those were good, she really liked her mixed drink. no dessert. all in all it was good. i don't think we'll be back though, upwards of $70 for 2 drinks, an app, and 2 burgers is pretty spendy to me. in our opinion, the food wasn't worth the price. |
It has always been disappointing to me that such a lovely spot has such mediocre food. Not bad, just mediocre.

This may soon be on the menu!

I had to laugh at the references to "Eating Mr. Ed". Not for me, thanks. |
kobe is definitely expensive for sure, and not available at your average burger joint. makes for some fine eating. i've had the kobe burger at o's (same $) and now at lakehouse. o's burger is much better. it wasn't bad, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't as good.

Bison Beef
Personally I prefer bison meat over Kobe. A lot less fat and a more gamey taste. Bison meat is available locally at any of the farm markets.
Buy local! :D |
All things considered, unless a restaurant absolutely specializes in burgers, any burger plate is not something I would attempt to use as a gauge for the overall menu.

Ground Buffalo meat became available in RI some time later in a few markets. We tried it a couple of times.....BUT: The Raw ground meat had a strange smell that was "Off Putting". It just didn't smell right so we never did it again. The Cooked meat was fine. :) NB |
