Great shot!

Wonderful picture

Great shot...you don't suppose that there is a conversation involved here...like one eagle saying to the other "Hey, there's Brenda...let's turn our heads to the left and smile. That'll give her a shot of a lifetime!" :emb:

Great picture

I had the opportunity to see a family on several occasions this past summer while working at Merrymeeting Lake.
From what I understand the same family returns every year.
I got some pictures that my wife was able to doctor up using a HD camcorder in picture mode.

Have the ones from down by the dam left or do they stay stay around all winter?
Do eagles even leave?

That is a wonderfull shot.I'm wondering though how you got a point of view shot about the same elevation as they appear to be up high in the tree?

Well I can't take credit for the shot. But I know the photographer that took it. Like many of the lots around Merrymeeting Lake, her home sits high on a steep slope above the lake. The eagle landed in a treetop downslope from her, so it was about eye level, despite being in the top of the tree.

As for whether the eagles stay around all year, I'm not sure. But I do know that the pair who nest on the Merrymeeting River were building a nest last February, and another photographer took a shot of one of them eating on the ice at some point during the winter.

Eagles will stay as long as they can still fish and/or eat. Otherwise they will move on and return later most of the time.

I have lots of eagle shots from this summer if you want to check them out here: http://brendajacobsphotography.smugmug.com/Birds

There are also shots of loons, hummers, turkeys, turkey vultures and some others.

LG

It was great being able to see and take pictures of the ones at the dam this summer.
Merrymeeting believe it or not the folks whose house I'm working on down the lake from you have never seen the eagles around the lake. They have been there for quite a while to.
Now that I come in from Old Wolfeboro Rd I don't go past where they were nesting anymore.
We see then on the lakes of Maine while snowmobiling where many fisherman will leave fish sitting on the ice for the eagles.

Yes, I believe it. The eagles returned to Merrymeeting only about 2 years ago. The sightings are still relatively rare (unless you know about the spot on the river). While out on the lake, I only saw them once this summer.

I got a picture of a pair eating out on the ice and flying around in Wolfeboro Bay. I wish there was a way to tell more easily which pair is which pair....:D
So they must stick around as this was in the winter....Obviously eh? LOL.
