Natural Spring: In Sandwich?

Hi,
We were out cycling this weekend. We went up 109 into Sandwich, onto 113 and past the fairgrounds and the creamery. Ended up back on 25 in Tamworth. Anyway, there was a fresh water spring on the side of the road somehere along that route. It looked like an old horse traugh with the water comming from a hose. A plauqe said it was erected in 1905. Does anyone have any information about the history of this? It was not as "set up" as the one that used to be near our home in Moultonboro, on Redding Lane, but it looked like it had been maintained well over the years...thanks!

I've been getting my drinking water there for years and years. I believe it is now even tested on a regular basis.

Hundreds of Springs in NH

I remember seeing springs everywhere when I travel NH in the 50's and 60's. I believe EPA shut down most of them and made testing a requirement if the spring is open to the public.

There used to be one on Bean Road between Center Harbor/Moultonborough and Sandwich.

Is that one long gone now?

The state plowed it over years back, because it used to run across Bean Road and freeze, it was right in the vicinity of Range Road
