Another Webcam To Add!

New Webcams on rattlesnakecam.com

I have added the Mt. Chocorua cam to http://www.rattlesnakecam.com/lakecams.htm

Also added is a new video server on Merrymeeting Lake. Video servers stream continuous images vs. taking a snapshot every few minutes.

Enjoy

Live...From Madison!

Thanks for adding the Hedgehog Hill cam. I was going to recommend a while ago, as it was a long time favorite, but it seemed to be down for months and months. Watch in the winter -- the usually (at least in past 4-5 years) put a yardstick out in the yard, so you can gauge the depth of the snow! Pretty cool. These are same folks who put the first observatory cam on top of Mount Washington.

Hedgehog?

Curious how "Hedgehog Hill" came to be named in New Hampshire. Hedgehogs, native to Europe and Asia, are not found on this side of the world.

(Not as bad as Akwa Vista or Loon Mountain).

Are realtors the source of these "cute" names? Give me a "Winnipeseeogee" anytime.

Hedgehogs Unite!

Hedgehog Hill Press hosts the cam, and hence the name. It's not a place, but a company, headquarterd on Hedgehog Hill Road in Madison.

Perhaps there are some Hedgehogs that stowed away on an Offshore boat that made its way to the big lake, and then hiked up Rte 25 towards Madison. ;)

WebCam troubles?

Is everyone else having trouble getting the 2 Wolfeboro webcams? I'm getting "this page not available" on them for the last couple of days.

I'm also not getting the Winnisquam Marina Cam...only a red and blue page with webmasters comments from almost a year ago.

I've been watching all the others just fine...watching the ice build in is facinating.
Thanks for any assistance,
Phil

The whole Wolfeboro website as been down all week, including the cameras.

I have not seen any results from the Winnisquam Cam for a while. There are a few that are out and have been out for a while, Abakee Cottages, The Wolfeboro Cams, East Alton General Store all do not respond. There is a site down message at the wolfeboro online website that hosts the cams that they hope to be back in 48 hours. It has been there for a few days so it must be a significant issue.

It would be helpful to those of us who live vicariously through the webcams if the operators would let us know when they might be back online. Usually if you get a red x in the thumbnail picture on the lakecams web page, the camera or camera site is down. I have sent emails to a couple of them, but have not yet heard back. Perhaps some just want to be alive during the warmer seasons.

East Alton Store Webcam

The East Alton Store WebCam was up and running yesterday. I was tuned in and watching it snow!

Looks like a Winter Wonderland this morning! Here's a shot from the boathouse cam.

The Merrymeeting Cam was up and running earlier in the week after a long hiatus...now seems to be down again. :(

I stand corrected

East Alton is up... It just won't work from my laptop.. hmmm, maybe I have an incompatible software component.

Thanks tr

IG, if you have a firewall on your laptop, that can stop you from receiving some cams, or even just the temperature on the Weirs Cam. If you suspect that to be the problem, just disable your firewall momentarily, go to the site in question (or if you are there, you can usually just click on "refresh") and see if you get the cam. If you do, it's the firewall that is stopping the signal coming in. Just remember, if you disable your firewall, you no longer have the protection of the firewall against intruders. You may be able to go into the firewall settings and allow that website (webcam) to pass. And don't forget to enable your firewall afterward.

Welcome home...No recent report on ice thickness on the "bay".

Merrymeeting cam is working.

McDude,

Not sure it if was offline sometime this afternoon, but the Merrymeeting cam was working fine this morning and is working now (although not much to see in the dark)

Keep in mind that the initial screen can take up to 45 seconds to load the first time but usually will refresh about every 20 seconds after that. I'm going to see what I can do about the initial image load next time I can get access to the camera.

(BTW, sent you an email via your website. Your site has an old address for the camera. Perhaps that is your problem?)

mcdude 01-09-2005 07:49 PM

I stand corrected, as well...

Thanks Merrymeeting for giving me a clue. I absolutely was using the old address for the cam on the Web Cam Portal on my website. I have corrected the problem. I can't believe I was missing my daily dose of the Merrymeeting Cam because of that. When did the url change? Great job on the website, Merrymeeting. Very impressive.

I'm sure it's unrelated, but there is a place called Hedgehog Mountain off the Kancamagus Highway. Next to Mt. Major, this hike gives you the most "bang for your buck" in the area. Breathtaking views of several other mountains including Chocorua.
