Hydrofoil for outboards

I am looking for opinoins on hydrofoils for outboards. Do they really help get a small boat on-plane? Thanks

Works good for me

Not sure what you mean by a small boat, but on my 18' outboard, the fins made all the difference in the world. Without it, I was bouncing like a porpoise. With it, the boat comes up on a plane much faster. I wish it had a bit more of an effect, but I'd highly recommend it. One consideration - when they installed mine, one of the screws went through the trimming skeg. If that happens to you, make sure the engine is well tuned before the fin is installed.

They work very well...

they will enable you to plane at lower speeds thus saving fuel and will eliminate the porpoise issue you have. Bolt one on, you will be pleased.

Yes, those Doelfin plastic aerlion type of wings made a huge differance. After drilling the holes through the lower end of the outboard and bolting together those stainless screws & stop-nuts, my 15 year old 9.9hp kicker has enough lift to put a 3000lb boat up on plane, all by itself. You kow, it works so well that I want to put the kicker on the back of my pickup truck for that toughy NH winter driving about in the deep snow that will soon be here. And why not? I wonder what it would do on the back of a mountain bike or even on those new fangled parabolic shaped skis or, like wow, how about on a snow board or on a sailboard?? Ahem?

Hydrofoil

Get one and hold on !! I had one put on my 40 Johnson and it made my boat go just like in the cartoons, up on plane in 3 feet, and then launches me over the water, night and day difference.

I believe I have one packed away from one of my old boats. It had a negative effect on my 19' Searay. Caused it to bounce more. Talked with dealer and they in fact said that in some instances the foil will intensify the problem. Like new only thing you might need is the stainless screws.
E-mail me if interrested. You can have it I have no use for it.

Works for me!

We have one on a 19ft. FourWynns and you can really feel the difference when the outdrive is trimmed in or out compared to no fin.
