Flamingo Motel
 

Hi everybody,
I've been coming up to Winnipesaukee all my life. My family and I have a summer place on Weirs Blvd. As a child I always remember going by the Flamingo Motel which was located just before the channel bridge at the Weirs. It always caught my eye as a child because of the pink coloring of the motel and I loved that they had a pool. I always wanted to stay there and thought I would get that chance as I grew older. But one spring I returned and the property was for sale. To my knowledge it was never sold and eventually torn down and is now all over grown. I'm always researching the history of places, especially around Winnipesaukee and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Flamingo Motel. I tried finding information on it but only can find a postcard online with a few photographs of it. I appreciate the help!!!!! :look:

I always found it a little odd that a motel on the lake would have a pool.Well not entirely but I often ponder strange thoughts.:D

I love vintage postcards like that. They're a reminder of the very different world that we lived in, in the past.

That's something I love about this part of NH: Though some great vintage locations are gone, like the Flamingo, there are still plenty of them around. Some are still popular. I like to see that.

With so much of America being dominated by chain motels & restaurants, "big box" stores, and so on, it's nice to live in an area where local "mom & pop" businesses are still more the rule than the exception.

I hope it stays that way, and we see more places like the Flamingo Motel return to popularity.

Meanwhile, I started with that CardCow.com link, and then landed at Motel Monday: Flamingo Fever. Who knew there were so many flamingo-themed motels? :) (I may be lost in vintage postcard pictures for the next couple of hours... )

I know what you mean, I lose time when I visit sites like these. Especially when I hit the Library of Congress. Eight hours can fly by in a flash. :laugh:
