Queen of Winnipesaukee
 

Does anyone know what happened to the Queen of Winnipesaukee and where she is now? I was also wondering if anyone knew what brand of sailboat she was and what year she was built?

That would be our infamous RG!... There is also a dude out here what feel that they own this place. My humorous attempt to bring to four, a springtime allure.
Let me tell you that you are not wasting your time, one of these two will be out here in a hurry, to give you an answer, weather or not they have personally experienced it, or knot. Please stay tuned.
Yup, and I 'Doo enjoy the winters here, and also enjoy sailing and boating on the great Lake Winnipesaukee as well, however, I also give a very wide birth to Mother Nature at all times here.

I believe the Queen was an Irwin 40', if my memory is awake yet.

I didn't realize that it was no longer on the lake.

Maybe it's the beak on the front ;)

It was a fun ride always on the Queen. I know they were also Shaklee products salespeople. They had a very good run on the lake.

Looking a lot like a Cuban boatload of refugees trying to escape to Miami, the Queen would be wall to wall, rail to rail, with people all crammed onto the deck on a sunny weekend, 1 1/2 hour cruise out to Mark-Timber Islands. Sitting up against the rail, legs out over the side of the hull, you couldn't see the deck when it was all crammed up with people like that.

Supposedly, the new owner had a town dock lease disagreement with the City of Laconia over the terms of the Weirs dock lease or something. The new owner decided to "walk" and sailed off to Florida. That was a big loss for the Weirs waterfront! Score: Florida-One, Weirs Beach-Zero!

I had no idea one could sail from Winnie to Florida. :eek:

Only because you've never seen the compression on FLL's face! :laugh:

Thanks for posting the pics of the Queen, I have very fond memories of going out for a ride on that boat when I was really little. My grandfather took me out one summer that I was staying with him, on a perfectly clear, calm, and windless day :laugh:
I remember the sails flapping around in the light breeze and sun beating down, it was a perfect day for a powerboat. Regardless that was a nice boat and gave me great memories. I was never fortunate enough to experience the aspect of it though. Maybe those cubans are smarter than my grandfather and know not to take a sailboat out on a calm day :laugh:

Thanks for bringing up some nice childhood memories with this thread! I miss seeing that boat on the lake.

Every year just at ice out, when the ice all breaks up and washes down the river, there's a 5-minute window of opportunity to surf down over the dams, and get out to the ocean. Just like a tsunami washing a boat over a concrete sea wall, the Winnipesaukee Queen grabbed that ice out wave and rode it over about five different dams and out to sea.....piece -of-cake......F-L-O-R-I-D-A!

Probably, anything carried on a flat bed trailer that is bigger than 8 1/2' x 48' automatically becomes an oversize load as far as being trailered on the road system, and gets into the realm of permits and off-peak travel time. If you gots the money, then they gots the time!
