Gove's Point

Punch up "gove's point laconia nh" on the internet. First item has a little bit of info. I couldn't make out the geographical references, though.

From The Granite Monthly and the illustrated Laconian

Gove's Point is a charming body of land extending out into the waters of Winnisquam Lake, and offering an airy retreat to the citizens during the warm summer days. A carriage drive extending around the shore and a fine grove are among its attractions.

Mr. Gove built up a very prosperous trade and erected several large business blocks on Main street, one on the present site of Folsom block, and another fine fire-proof building near the location of the present Gordon & Booth store The building did not prove to be fireproof, however, and was destroyed in the great conflagration of 1860. Mr. Gove was one of the most public spirited and enterprising citizens of his day, and he fitted up Gove Point, which projects into Lake Winnisquam, at his own expense and at great cost, for the benefit of the public, as a common pleasure resort free to all.

All I could find so far

Gove's point is now called dixon point near bartlett beach on lake Winnisquam, where two of the neat brick homes that he built are still located. He (Richard Gove) had planned to turn Gove's point into a public amusement park.

Just curious as to who decided that after all these years a name change was necessary and why?

Happens all the time. The presidents were not named after mountains in nh.

Who is Dixon and why does he deserve the honor?
