Hannafords moving across the street...
What are people's thoughts of the Gilford Hannaford Supermarket moving across the street next to Lowe's? Interesting how they are making a smaller building.
|
We would have preferred to hear that a Market Basket was going to be constructed next to Lowe's. I don't see the value in Hannaford moving across the street.

Hanaford's move...
That was a rumor that was posted here a year or two ago when Lowe's was under construction. Have you heard something recently that hasn't been published in the press?

Is this Hannaford going to be built in back of Lowe's down near the boat-yard ? If so......it does not seem like the best place since you will not be able to see the store-front from the road.

Hannaford's building a new store across the street from the old store made me think of the Heaths in Center Harbor. I was so excited to have a new large store. What happened? It seems so crowded now and yet they do not have a lot of the things that I am looking to buy.
Occasionally I do go there when I am in a rush as it is closer. Ice cream or a cake to bring to a dinner at neighbor's is the type of thing I get there now. Maybe hire someone to arrange the items and decide which ones to carry? I now shop for groceries almost exclusively at the Hannaford in Meredith. |
I'm surprised Shaws didn't decide to move across the street. In my home town of Merrimack there are three Shaws properties all within 2-3 miles of each other. When there was talk of property being developed in the north of town Shaws built a store there and kept the one mid-town. Then when there was talk of property being developed at exit 11 off route 3 Shaws closed the mid-town store and moved there. In the process Shaws solidified their hold on the town. Now there's an almost vacant strip mall in the middle of town. The other stores have either closed or moved to exit 11. Its obscene. Shaws stuck it to Merrimack and we now shop elsewhere. Most of the time its Hannaford in Bedford but when we can its worth the trip to Market Basket in Nashua.

Reliable Rumour.
I was told that if Hannaford move across the street next to Lowe's, it would leave a huge space in the mall. Walmart might use it to expand into a Super Walmart there. A move that Shaw's and Hannaford don't want to see.
The rumour does not have merits. If Walmart wanted to put in a Super Walmart, they would build next to Lowe's. As they did in Hooksett. |

Facing the Lowe's/Domino's buildings I believe it would go on the left side. Not near the Boat yards. This space has been empty for quite a while. Originally wasn't a Kohl's supposed to go in there? Seems there is a Kohl's next to every Lowe's or Home depot....:rolleye2:
I love the fact that might move over there. Competition between Shaw's and Hannafords will help with prices. (I would think any way....) |
Market Basket
There is a deal in the works for a Market Basket in Gilford.............you will see it in the next few years.

Walk into the Lowe's Gilford entrance that is closer to the pizza restaurant, and proposed new Hannaford's, and right there at the entrance, Lowe's has a no-charge, self service coffee & hot chocolate machine that mixes water from a 5-gal bottle of Poland Spring water, and your choice of coffee or hot chocolate. And, the price is as already mentioned but worth mentioning again, no-charge!
Will the neighboring new Hannaford's be offering a similar service of freebie coffee? As their other stores do not, the predicted answer is NO! |

What ever happened to area that Home depot was supposed to build on? Market Basket?:D
|
Hannafords
Is hannafords aware that there was already a supermarket there and it folded up? Waste of resources if you ask me..

To good to be true
Putting a Market Basket in Gilford would be great. The only down side to it would be the possibility of jobs lost by the competition. There is no way the area could sustain that many supermarkets.
MB would put one of them out of business. Since many like myself will not shop at Shaw’s for the simple fact you have to have that ridiculous card with you to get the savings, my bet is it will be Shaw’s. |
On the subject of supermarkets, has anyone ever bought Shaw's store brand bacon? It turns GRAY when you cook it! And it tastes lousy!!!
Really, BACON?????? |
This is funny
I actually prefer hannafords back home, but when I am up there I think the Shaw's is better most time they let you use card for the sales that they keep on thier register, so no big deal to me. But I would love a Market Basket |
Let’s get crazy....how about a Whole Foods & a "real" Mexican restaurant!
