Looking for recommendations for daily excursions....

Hello Everyone....I am new to the Forum, but a follower of a year or so.

On the 7th I am heading up to the Lake for a week with my family and another family. The 9 of us rented a place last year on Six Mile Island. Last year we spent a lot of time in our 23' Chris Craft. We explored a lot of the Lake including: Braun Bay, Center Harbor, Meredith, Weirs, Paugus Bay, and made a trip up to Lee's Mill to the Loon Center. We put about 180 miles on the boat last year and enjoyed every one of them.

This year we are renting a place in Moultonborough (very close to Suissevale). We are going from the wide open views of the middle of the big lake to one of the more remote areas. In addition to (hopefully) enjoying some fishing we are planning on taking many day trips on the boat to explore those areas we have not seen as of yet.

I am hoping that you will be able to provide me with some 'must see' areas of the southern end of the Lake. We love to adventure out and explore new places and find a new place to eat. The kids are always on the look out for a dock within walking distance of ice cream and\or penny candy ("thank you" Y-Landing Marina in Meredith for all the candy last year!). The parents don't mind finding a stop where seafood or steak can be found :-).

Thank you in advance for any suggestions you may have!

Yup, definitely Wolfeboro and while your there head down Alton Bay. On the way to Alton go by the Bahre estate on Clay Point across from Barndoor Isl if you want to see a modern day compound on Winni.

Hit Wolfeboro mid-week, better chance to get a dock. There are several nice restaurants, ice cream stands, hot dog cart, shopping and general small town stuff to see.

As I hinted the public docks are large but always crowded, expect to wait, especially on weekend afternoons. All public docks on Winni are free and first come first serve. Some towns do enforce a time limit in the busy season.

Alton is also a good place. Less dockage but less crowded. There are fewer things to see, a couple restaurants, ice-cream, candy store and mini-golf. No shopping to speak of.

Also midweek, try the sand bar on the mainland behind Sleeper Island. Look for the no rafting zone on your map. It's a nice place to anchor and wade in waist deep water with a sandy bottom. Like Braun bay but not a rowdy.

While in the Wolfeboro area, you can ride by the summer home of our next president.

Boating Secrets

Pick up a copy at any of the marinas, lots of ideas.

Google lakes region conservatory trust, they have several islands that you can hike and chill out, most notably Stonedam Island. Blanchard Island is near you, check it out.

The Libby Museum near Melvin Village is another oddity on the lake.

I could go on and on. Most important of all, enjoy!
