Squirrels in attic!!!!!!!!

Have tried moth flakes and moth balls. They ate their way in from the fascia board and soffit. A nest was found and raked away. I used the Decon squares. Now the fascia boards and soffit have been replaced but I am told that they will get right to eating it away again???? I see fresh droppings in the attic. HELP!! They used the new type of board that is white plastic PVC or something and looks great. However, would hate to have it eaten. The fellow here was only replacing the side of house and front of dining room. At least 3/4 of the house is still wood. I will get to some of that in summer I guess if it is rotted. No telling on what the squirrels will do though. Any suggestions on what I can do with SQUIRRELS IN THE ATTIC??

Go to the hardware store and buy two or three snap rat traps, bait them with peanut butter. Watch your fingers!!! Trap, discard, repeat until you catch no more. Patch all the holes when able. Squirrels do mega damage when in the house, you need to get rid of them.

This should do it.

Play very loud music. Aerosmith "Toys in the Atic" will give them something to compete with.

I will get the snap rat traps tomorrow and some peanut butter as well. I do not see them and they have not been anywhere but the attic as far as I can see so far. Would a place like Lowe's or Home Depot have them?

Heath's or aubuchan hardware should have them in Moultonboro, big stores should have them too. Good luck!!!

Had a squirrel in the basement this fall. Got into everything and terrorized my wife by falling out of the insulation next to her while doing laundry. Picked up a have a heart trap at Home Depot and caught him in a couple of days. Tried mouse traps but he set them all off.

Peanut butter is an attractive bait for rodents like this. It will be less effective in warmer weather though. I was trying to trap chipmunks last summer and could not figure out how the bait plate was licked clean without tripping the spring.

It turned out that ANTS were stealing the bait.

I improved my catch by adding a larger lump of bait in the morning. The ants weren't able to finish it before the chippies got active.

It doesn't happen often but sometimes they run across the trap and you get a leg-hold. You may have to go looking for the critter and your trap. If you don't find them before spring you may end up with a fragrance... You can drill a hole in the trap's base and run a 'leash' to a weight or post. That should keep them where you can find them. Bring a stick or pellet gun.

Good luck!

We also had unwanted squirrel residents in our attic so we setup a loud radio and boarded up all but one hole and put a one-way door so once they got out they couldn't come back! Within a few days we had a squirrel free attic and then had all of the fascia fixed :)

You're lucky!

Putting the music up there, you could have had squirrels doing dancing like the hamsters in the Kia commercial: "Yo, go rodent...yo, go rodent"!

Call Tom at Alpha Omega Pest Control

I live in Moultonboro, Tom is in Meredith. Several years ago, we had flying squirrels in attic. Would never have known about the, but the cats kept racing up the stairs and staring at the walls-so we knew something was up. Our house is stick-built with vinyl siding and faux-stone facing on front. There are lots of little places where critters can enter. Tom eradicated the critters, and filled all suspicious entries. He has helped us with bats, and last year - the debacle with the damned woodchuck. He is talented, fairly priced, and - at least for us - he's been successful every time.

I live in Moultonborough but the squirrels are in MA.

donnamatrix 01-31-2012 12:15 PM

Squirrel issue

If the squirrels are in MA - why are you posting on a NH website? Anyway, I bet if you call Tom at Alpha Omega he may know somebody close your home in MA who could eradicate them.

One word - Cat - problem solved

upthesaukee 01-31-2012 01:48 PM

give them a vacation...

Give them directions to the location in this thread: http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...ad.php?t=13521

which is a thread about squirrels in the basement (Sorry Professor, I saw this one first.)

A case of misery deserving company.:rolleye1:

Seriously, wish you both luck. We've killed over two dozen mice this winter alone between traps and the cats.

Have a home on the lake and value the advice of this forum!!!! That is why I posted here. Was hoping to find a solution that I could use doing it myself. At the moment the moth flakes may have done it. The fascia boards and soffits on the corner of the house have also been replaced so hoping no more can get in. However I am told that they will eat through new material? This is the new PVC board? I have yet to get the rat traps. Been busy. Will look and see. Was at the lake a week ago. MY FAVORITE PLACE ON THE EARTH!

Just picked up 300 rounds for my .22.
Grey squirrels have been getting closer and closer to my house. :(

That's a solution for outdoor pests. Here's one that won't scare the neighbors.

Be careful not to get caught out of season, and be sure your hunting license is current. :rolleye2:

squirrels-- how I drove them out

I had the same problem of squirrels in the attic, with holes that they chewed in the soffit for getting in and out. I bought some fox urine, which also came with small vials, and I nailed the vials up at each of the soffit holes on the outside. The squirrels left, since that had the smell of their predator. Then I closed up the holes, and they never returned. I got the urine at this website (of course, this poses the question of where did they get the urine?):

Good luck.

From Redd Foxx maybe?

no-engine 03-18-2012 02:44 PM

Tom is the ONE! I had terrible case of racoons in attic. He trapped them, removed nesting, and used strong galvanized netting to keep them out, covering the gable end vents, which they had chewed!!!
