Old Moultonborough Ski Slope?
 

We were driving down Sheridan road in Moultonborough this afternoon and came across what appears to be an old, abandoned ski slope with a rope tow. Obviously a relic from the good old days when I learned to ski at similar small slopes in the southern part of NH.

Wondering if anyone knows anything about this ski slope?

That is the place. It is owned by the Red Hill Outing Club. I believe the slope was willed to the Club and put into some form of revocable trust- revocable if the Club abandons or stops maintaining the property. It does open in the Winter, snow willing. Members can turn the lift on and ski til they are tired of it!

Wow! Last thing I expected was a Website! That is definitely what we saw. It reminded me of The Elms in Manchester, and another slope called Twin Tows in Milford, where I learned to ski back in the 50s. Have to check it out this winter.

I skied at the Elm's as well as Twin Toes. If I remember correctly Twin Toes was wild. Every skier ended at the bottom of the same "hill" and there were many crashes. I was glad when I started skiing in the mountains- back then it was Waterville. When I got my license it was Cannon all the time.

The Red Hill slope was one of the first cases they have you read about in law school. When I read it you can imagine my surprise when I realized it was right near our place in NH. Its a great case in the property area of the law and has to do with altering deeds and reversion to previous owners for a lack of intended use...

abandoned ski areas
 

My great aunt's son (what does that make him to me? some sort of cousin?) once owned a ski slope in Dunstable, Ma (Blanchard Hill) perhaps 30-35 years ago. i became familiar with the abandoned ski area project while researching his property.

I remember that!
 

I used to ski there when I was a kid. As a matter of fact, I broke my first bone (wrist) there when I was in fourth grade! Lots of fun memories there

I also grew up there skiing and it was a great place to learn.

In it's own way, Waterville Valley is one of those "Lost Ski Slopes". Once we could get down a hill alive, my dad took us to Waterville. There is a condo developement where it used to be. I remember it as being a big slope with 2 t-bars. From there it was on to Sunapee and King Ridge, another area that disappeared. Interesting layout. The parking was at the top of the mountain.

are you referring to red hill or blanchard hill when you say you skied there as kids?

Winter's long enough in New England lets not talk about skiing till around November.
