Ray’s Machine Shop

I’m not sure he is still around but Ray’s on route 3 in Tilton was my go to guy for small engine repair. His shop is still there but he may have retired…

Union Wharf Rd.

Gerry's small engine repair on Union Wharf Rd (about halfway up the road).

Used him once to diagnose and fix mower issue. Fixed and fair price.

If the saw is a Stihl, Gilford True Value is a dealer. They got my MS 250 running this spring.

To be honest, I don’t know. It is probably 25 years or so old. Unfortunately, it is at the lake & I am not. I can tell you it’s model was called “The Thing”.

I’ve probably only used it 25 to 30 times times since I bought it. That is probably the issue!

Last was “pocket post” - sorry!

Checked the internet and found that the saw is a Poulan “Wild Thing”.

Poulan Wild Thing

For the money you're considering spending for whatever repairs are needed, there are numerous quality used saws for sale from Echo, Stihl and Husqvarna. IMO that particular saw is not worth it.

On a side note, there's only one way to get that saw started.
You have to keep poulan and poulan and poulan!

:D

Ha! That saw, as I said, is 25yrs or so old. For the most part it has done everything I’ve asked it to do over that period. For an original purchase price of about 150, I’d say it was definitely worth it.

I fully intend to ask the repair guy for an estimate to repair. Once I have that, I can make a determination as to repair or replace. Re: used saw? I’m not interested in taking on someone else’s problems. There is usually a reason for selling/replacing a saw.

For many products, I agree with you. But I think many people but chainsaws and either never use them enough to justify having it and resell. I often Stihl MS-250/1s like new for good deals for I think just that reason.

Good luck!

After thinking about my usage, or lack there of, I may just sell/junk it and borrow my neighbor’s when the need arises!

Thanks for all the input people.
