How far do you live from the Lake?
Please take the poll.

I live on the lake opposite Beaver island in meredith
Getting Closer
Growing up in NJ we were 335 miles from the lake. I am now 215 miles away by living in CT. My son lives in Cambridge which is about 100 miles closer. We keep getting closer and closer with each generation. :D
Our drive is almost exactly 100 miles, door to door. I was a bit torn on which category to vote in :rolleye2:
my trip to the lake
I really have to gear up for the long drive to the lake. 6.2 miles from Gilford Village to Lake Shore Park.
One of my favorite things to do is "complain" to all of my MA/RI/CT friends on Sunday afternoon about my long trip home. I Know, I Know, I Know... it's not nice of me to do that.. but it's soo much fun. And, if I happen to forget to tell them ... they remind me.. :rolleye2: Other than that, I'm really a nice guy.. honest. |
Depends...
Property tax benefits keep my "primary residence" 2000 miles away, but six months of the year I'm just 40 feet from the lake. :coolsm:
I'm about 100 miles away, but getting closer every day ... !;)
78 miles - 80 minutes with no traffic - then priceless
209 miles from where i am sitting right now!
i dont "live" on the lake, but when i am at our shop i am about 40 feet from it! when i am home on the island i live on i am 60 feet from the high tide line in the "pond"! i try to never be far from the water... i feel very fortunate to be able to live on two of the beautiful waterbodies in the world (IMHO).:D
about 4000 miles
But we'll visit this summer! Can't wait.
OK Folks... Welcome my sister to the forum
Wannabesaukee is my sister, and the Moose Lady from this post.
http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...ead.php?t=7209 I'm gonna bet she wins the "most distant" prize. In her post she says she's "about 4,000 miles".. google map says 4,510 miles! She'll be visiting with us this summer.. we can't wait! (No, she's not bringing the moose) |
1836 miles from Plano Texas to Meredith.
Welcome Wannabesuakee!

In reality: 6-50 miles
In my dreams: Waterfront |
30 feet.It met setbacks when the original cottage was built.
We live in Center Barnstead..
takes about 25 minutes to get in our boat in Alton Bay and head North to Cow Island...going to be a longer ride every Friday only going 45...YA RIGHT!
Further than I wish I was. Seriously though, physically, I'm about 100 miles from the lake, mentally I'm at the lake all the time !
66 miles to Gilford/Fay's and 55 miles to Alton Bay. Takes about the same time for either location from my home. Hopefully at the lakes region someday.

Distance Traveled
We live in Salem and approximately 64 miles from our driveway to Lakeport Landing.
Shall we declare Wannabepesaukee the winner? Anyone with a longer commute? :)
From Alaska to Massachusetts

Yeah, been there and done that, and you definitely get my vote. Hope you get here soon, and I hope you have got your "sourdough rating".:) |

100 miles from Melrose, Ma to Y Landing
how far from the lake
35 miles from Concord to west alton marine:D
Paugus Bay....
About 250' ( my feet ) to 400-500' ( your feet ) :)
Dallas/Fort Worth, ball park 1,870 miles. :) |
Too far away!
It's 305 miles from Clifton, NJ to Sandy Point. After trying many different routes over the last 22 years, I've found the shortest drive (5 hours flat with no stops and no traffic -- and keeping the cruise control on 68):
Garden State Parkway, NY Thruway to Tappan Zee, 287 to Merritt Parkway. 91 to Rt. 3, Rt. 2 (East Hartford), then 84 E to Mass Tpke. Mass Pke from Sturbridge to Auburn for 290. 290 to 495N. In Chelmsford, Rt. 4 to 3 North. Everett Tpke. to 93 in Hooksett. Exit 15 to 393, then Rt. 4 & 9 into Chichester. Take the short cut thru "downtown" Chichester to Rt. 28 28 to Alton Circle and then Rt. 11. I think the car knows the way by itself after 5+ years on the road. |
Far
265 of the longest miles I know (Long Island, NY > W. Alton Marina)
Southboro, MA to Shep Browns 130 miles usally 2 hours from driveway to boat ramp
distance
Well, 4.7 miles from primary on 11A to lakefront on 11.
Also from home, 1 mile to boatyard where boat stored, quick hookup, and less than a mile to Glendale to launch. <sigh> Is it Summer yet? ;) |
It's about 155 miles from Providence to Exit 24 near Ashland. Trip meter usually says 111 when we reach the state liquor store rest stop in Hooksett. Can't wait to get up there in August!
southern NH
74 miles, drive way to drive way. And I enjoy every one of them on my weekly Thursday night departures. Just 8 more weeks to go until opening.
When we closed last October, it seemed like it would be forever. But now, just 8 weeks. And with the Sox opening this Monday, the time should pass quickly. |
from Nashua...
70 miles if I don't follow the GPS's suggestion to get off at exit 20 and go all the way to Route 3. About 5 miles shorter if I do.
200 exactly
From Farmington CT to West Alton Marina (another 60 though if I start the meter at work before getting home!). But, we still made it up nearly every weekend from May through October last year...
A Looong Way
I live 3100 miles from the lake, so I don't get back there often enough, however I do live on the salt water whose area is as beautiful as it is at the lake. Pro: Boating year around; I was out today watching the Orca Whales. Con; The water temp.today was 60 F. I:eek: was running my Seadoo today while wearing a dry suit.
Western MA.
We live about 140 miles too far from the lake.
In other words, we live 140 miles from the lake. |
Think cottage is less than 50 feet
Sitting on porch one does not see the land.
I live 99 miles away. The family has had the camps for 50 years.Love it!!!
Welcome to the Forum D.C.
1550 miles from Naples Fl to the lake. At the Lake, 30' from front porch to the water. Cabin built in 1903 before the set back rules
About 480 miles. Much nearer in my mind...
437 miles. Translation: 437 miles too far.
I can walk to the lake:)
I currently live in Juneau, AK, which is about 2,800 miles as the eagle flys to Moultonborough, NH. Google Maps won't give a driving distance, because you can't drive out of Juneau!
Can't wait to be back on the island! Just 8 more weeks out here... |
I'm lucky!
I can measure the distance in feet, not miles!!
How far from Lake...
It will be tough to beat APS, even when I lived near him he was still several feet closer (his house is 'grandfathered' for closeness to the Lake), but now I am off the Lake, but only .7 miles to the water and beach.
100 miles door to door!!
Love this place:) |
i love in wolfeboro, over by lake wentworth so about 6 to 8 miles from winni.
Google Maps says I'm 50.3 miles from our driveway (in Hopkinton NH) to West Alton Marina where we launch (yes, we trailer back and forth!). Subtract 2 miles if Ames Farms' launch ramps ever re-open to the public (god, I hope they do soon!)! Nothing against West Alton Marina; the people there are great, it's just their launching and parking is a little cramped. Plus if Ames re-opens, that's 2 less miles on a narrow, twisty section of Rt 11. :D
Thank god I don't have to travel 93 South on Sunday evenings; that traffic is horrendous just getting through Concord! |
268 Miles including 1 ferry door to door and every mile and every minute is well worth the trip!:)
I live 127 miles during the week (from Rhode Island) but about 2 miles on the weekends.
during the weekends I live 70 feet from the lake,
i already gave my during the week answer |
150 miles to our front door in Meredith. Just love it there!
On the lake, an island in Tuftoboro in the summer. Loved it here so much we built our off-season retirement home near Melvin Village.

65 Miles
65 miles from our home in Bedford, NH to West Alton Marina
Since the poll began, we've gone from 100 miles to a bit under 100 feet. :D
It's 371 miles from our home in western New Jersey to our cottage in Laconia just down from the Governers Island bridge. It's a 6+ hour drive but worth it every time.:)
I live 5 miles fero the lake, in Laconia.
2,800 miles
Live in AZ but thankfully able to return to the family cottage on Welch every summer for the past 50 years.:D
Since this poll began, we have gone from 106 miles to about 22 feet and we are loving every minute. It's a dream come true.
256 miles very long miles on a Friday. now going up on Wednesdays from work and it isnt bad..... although the 270 miles to work on Mondays is not bad.
3060 miles
We live 3060 miles away. So wish we lived closer! During the summer we live 30 feet from the lake and love every minute of it!
But on Average...
Quote:
Happy New Year, Grey Goose. Hope you get 30 feet away really soon.:) |
89 miles from the bed where we sleep 4 nights a week to the bed that looks out on to the lake where we sleep 3 nights a week. : )
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...psfb2c6c1c.jpg |
It is impressive, and a tribute to our lake's awesomeness (I know), that 20 percent of the folks coming here do so from 200 plus miles away!
I have lived in Laconia my whole life just one mile from the lake. I can't imagine living any where else. The only exception being bike week. It is pain just commuting to work.
905 Miles and Counting
Quote:
905 miles according to Google. One stop on the way up, no stops on the way back! :) |
101 miles but worh every penny!!!!!
I'm 101 miles door to door (or boat) I live on every weekend I can! Love it up on the Lake and it's our "Liquid Valium" as we like to call it!!!
3,226.48 miles...
more or less. Usually fly, but I've driven it a few times.
Depends....
Physically, about 115 miles door to door.
Mentally, I'm almost always there... |
84 miles
From Beverly to Minge Cove and a couple miles further to Smith Point RD where we rent the cabin we enjoy so much. The boat stays at the lake and we drive up as often as possible during the season.
About 25 feet, depending on how high the water level is!
We travel 194 mi., from Ellington, CT., to enjoy distant friends and the lake.
too far!
350 miles from my house in NJ
About 300 ft. from the lake!:)
35 miles
Approximately 35 miles from Pembroke, NH to Weirs Boulevard, Laconia, NH.
Sorry to mess up the results. During the time this poll has been active, I've gone from category #4 to #1...and loving every minute, even in this cold! :D
150 miles or so in the car to get to the boat and then another mile or so out to the island. Throttling up to get on plane as we leave the marina is the best part of the trip! :D
At the moment, we're about 2050 miles away as we sell our old house.
When we get home, we're a half mile walk to the bridge in downtown Wolfeboro. Technically that's Wolfeboro Bay, I guess.... |
... about 300 feet from the shore.
Distance...
LOL! Try 1932 miles or 3-4 days driving depending on how hard we push it!

It could only be miserable on the way home.

From the poll it seems like most live 1 to 2 hours away. I know when we were looking my wife wanted to keep it under 2 hours. But this past season the traffic was so bad an hour and 45 minute trip took us 2 1/2 hours.:(
1 block away, but the boat is always in the water and when the sun shines we are good to go.

0.6mi as the crow flies or 1.1mi if I walk.
It's the 400' of elevation gain to get back home that can be the issue or a great workout depending on how you look at it. It does make for some nice views. |
2,674 miles (*sigh*). From my old cottage in Gilford to Anthem Arizona.
