Hull Cleaning: Bar Keepers Friend
After researching a ton to find a cleaner for foot well water stains (orangish) and ratchet strap scuffs, I kept coming along two products: Starlight Hull Cleaner and Bar Keepers Friend. Given that the latter was $2, vs. $20 for the former, we gave it a try and EVERYTHING came off.
I don't have before photos, unfortunately, but there's literally nothing left on the hull other than actual scratches. I know it's an acid, so we were very gentle with it and cleaned it off quickly. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |
Bar keepers friend is great. Gets it off nicely. My only concern with it is it's abrasive so probably not the most gelcoat friendly product.

This. Products like this tend to work, but they strip coatings and make the hull more porous, making the stains stick easier next time. Buffing with a no-cut cleaning polish does the job Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Worked for me...
I used the Starlight Hull Cleaner this year...
Very impressed, it was allegedly less aggressive than Off-On and others , however it worked very well on my 2003 hull. If you have the boat on a galvanized or aluminum trailer, make sure you keep it wet to avoid streaking the trailer, masking it would be the best approach Good stuff |
