The Mount

Just watched on the Center Harbor Inn webcam the Mount returning to Center Harbor for her long winter rest. Sad to see her season come to an end.

Last ride

That must have been a super ride. No waves....no boats....fall colors...and probably just the sound of the engines even though they are much quieter than the old ones. They must strip it down a bit at the Weirs...too bad they don't sell tickets for the last cruise. The crew must be long gone. Fun to see it sleeping in Center Harbor all winter.

Any idea if there is a winter paint job in the cards? The hull colors are pretty faded.

Hi Janet, The Beach will look a little different without her.

Came across a neat video of the Mount being taken out of the water this past Spring.

A video of the engine change out on The Mount was suggested when I opened this one. It too is worth the watch.

In March 2010 the 220' M.S. Mount Washington had its' two old 1946 diesel engines removed and replaced with two new Caterpillar diesel engines at a price of about $750,000 for the two new engines and transmission.

It was funded by the federal Car Allowance Rebate System, a $3-billion U.S. federal scrappage program created by the Obama Administration, known as the "Cash for Clunkers" program and intended to provide economic incentives to U.S. residents and businesses to purchase more fuel efficient vehicles or in the case of the Mount Washington, two fuel efficient engines.

These new engines have a very different sound and make a constant BUZZZZ-ZZZZ sound while the old engines made a WHOOSH-WHOOSH-WHOOSH sound as it burned up a whole lot of expensive diesel fuel. The old WHOOSH-WHOOSH-WHOOSH was a sound that actually preceded the Mount as it moved around the lake and could be heard before it could be seen with the sound sent out via the exhaust stack atop the ship.

Dry Dock

Looks the Mount is in dry dock again according to her webcam. Wonder is she's getting a new paint job?

I read somewhere, probably the LaDaSun about six months ago or sometime, that the Mount Washington was needing future work or replacement done on its' one or two propellers.

Maybe the Mount could score a U.S. Dept Transportation, Maritime Administration propeller ...... www.maritime.dot.gov/grants-finances ...... 'repair propellers' grant similar to its' March 2010 'Cash for Clunkers' grant for its' two new engines.

After all, if a federal grant was approved for it in March 2010, then possibly it would be approved once again, in 2021 or 2022?
