Christmas movies
Time for Christmas movies, so what's everyone's favorite?
Mine is "Four Christmases" which I'm watching right now. |
"Christmas Vacation" and "Elf" are the top two in this house. "Christmas with the Kranks" usually shows up too.

White Christmas
|
While not a Christmas movie per se, Laurel and Hardy's "Babes in Toyland," aka "March of the Wooden Soldiers" was always aired around xmas on NYC TV when I was a kid and I always watched it.
That movie evokes strong xmas memories for me. |
I am old school- Miracle on 34th Street and The Bishop's Wife

I know this might cause some controversy, but who cares...

and Scrooged. By generation everyone under 50 was Die Hard....50-60 Scooged, the elderly IAWL... They're all great though, so no losers involved. |
I prefer the funny Christmas movies, Elf is a favorite of mine also.
Christmas Vacation has fallen down my list. |
Same here, plus one

White Christmas is a must in our house.
Now here are the deep cuts: A little unconventional, but based on a true story set during WWI: Joyeux Noel (2016). Another lesser-known classic as well that we like is It Happened on 5th Avenue And an underappreciated hidden gem is one I just have always loved since childhood is One Magic Christmas (1985, Disney+). It is not an upper, but it is poignant, well-acted, and simply an unconventional and beautiful Christmas classic in my opinion. Another forgotten one that is funny and unique is A Child's Christmas in Wales (1987) And yet another one we love that is hard to find except for on YouTube, Stubby Pringle's Christmas (1978) is touching and quiet and stars Beau Bridges. Try some of these for something new and thoughtful this season. |

Don't forget about Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol- it's never on TV anymore. It may trigger blind people.

Only if they pretended to be “triggered”. Plus how would they know that Mr. Magog is anything less than 20/20? Your point is well taken though. Thankfully this thread wasn’t titled Holiday Songs. 🤣 Sent from my iPhone using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |
Holiday Inn
Little known fact: Irving Berlin's song 'White Christmas' was NOT debuted in the movie 'White Christmas', as logically thought; but twelve years earlier in the movie 'Holiday Inn', when it won the 1943 Academy Award for Best Original Song. |

Christmas Vacation - #1
Muppets Christmas Carol - #2 Die Hard 1 and 2 - #3 I know, I know these aren't really Christmas movies, but they take place at Christmas time and therefor have become enshrined with Christmas. The Christmas Candle - #4 Released in (2013) I think it has a great story line, plus Samatha Barks looks pretty good in late 1800's attire. Rankin Bass Christmas movies - #5 There's 19 of them, from the 1st classic "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" released in 1964, to their last "Santa Baby!" released in 2001. Some are better than others, I haven't seen them all but it's a goal of mine, I have 6 to go. There's a bunch more I like but I'll stop here. |

Uh oh, now you have to post the Rankin Bass ones so we can call find out which ones we’ve missed! Let’s all be independent together! Sent from my iPhone using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |

Classics plus Die Hard, Prancer, Elf
Just had to chime in - I love all the classics mentioned! Plus more recent additions:
Elf - based in NYC - what more to bring back memories growing up in the Tri-City area! Prancer (1989) A farm girl nurses a wounded reindeer she believes is one of Santa's. - a heartfelt glimpse at a tough holiday, showing how family pulls tighter, no matter what the odds, to work it out. "Dad, are we going to starve?" "Heck no" says her apple orchard Dad, "We have apples...," as he grimly and viciously prunes the trees. |
"Four Christmases" is a good one for sure. Personally, I'm a big fan of "Elf" with Will Ferrell. It's just so hilarious and gets me into the holiday spirit every time.
|
Two favorites
Word of warning my daughter says I have the sense of humor of a teenage boy. Two of my favorites not mentioned are The Night Before with Seth Rogan and Joseph Gordan-Levitt and Office Christmas Party with Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston.

One more to add to the list
I knew we were forgetting one. Sort of like Die Hard.
