Biggest private vessel on the lake

http://www.laconiadailysun.com/index...ugged-big-boat

ITD 06-23-2013 05:53 PM

Just what we need a yacht with auto pilot cruising around the lake. Here's an idea, if you don't want to drive your boat, hire a captain or anchor it.

Legionnaire70 06-23-2013 06:31 PM

They're going to have to draw the lake level down 6 feet just to accomidate the thing..
Is lake Winni really the place for a boat that big? Come on...

polarisman14 06-23-2013 06:50 PM

That's nuts. I can only assume you wouldn't be able to get under just about all of the bridges either. So you have this gigantic boat whose only rivals are the mount and the sophia mae, and you'd have to tow a smaller boat around to access the other 25% of the lake anyway.

I mock out of envy, of course. :emb:

Not the biggest

We already have this: http://faysboatyard.com/?page_id=62 Used for $62,000. I saw it leaving Fay's just before the big rain around 4:00

I don't think it is the biggest, I've seen one or two big Hinkley's tooling around in the past.....

WeirsBeachBoater 06-23-2013 08:30 PM

What about the 53' Carver that is on the lake? Used to be kept at the end of the row going into MVYC. Formerly know as the Utha Summa Humma, before being sold, don't know what it was renamed.

jrc 06-24-2013 05:51 AM

This was just a clever way for Irwin to get some free press.

I'm pretty sure that was Mark Borgeouis' Regal you are refering to.

Just did a quick search; MINIMUM draft is listed as 37". I wonder what maximum draft is when fully loaded? :D

His commission was probably more than my annual salary! :(

that could be my lake house

Dave R 06-24-2013 12:09 PM

I bet it's the biggest Bayliner on the lake, but there's been plenty of bigger boats. The Scamp was almost 30 feet longer and prowled the lake a long time ago.

jrc 06-24-2013 12:24 PM

Since this thing has skyhook, it can essentially hover in place without an anchor.

So it could go wherever it wants in a No Rafting Zone and just hover there. NRZ laws only apply to anchored boats. I thought mercury gave up on skyhook for safety reasons.

Though both are owned by Brunswick (as is Sea Ray), the Meridians are a far cry from a Bayliner.

jrc 06-24-2013 04:11 PM

Meridian is the current name for what was the large Bayliner yachts. This is not a commentary on the quality of Bayliners or Meridians.

My quick search says 2002 was the last year for Bayliner Yachts and 2003 was the first for Meridian. For ten years they have had different names.

Yup, same factory, same workers, same boats, different brand name. They are built to a higher standard than a typical Bayliner 175 though.

tis 06-24-2013 05:46 PM

We toured the factory on Merritt Island where the Sea Ray boats were made. I think part of it closed but think they still make some boats there. What an operation it is!

He owns MB Tractor as well as the giant McMansion that faces Eagle Island. Also owned the rather infamous "Summa Humma", a 47' fountain that used to tear up the lake.

CrownRay 06-25-2013 09:30 AM

Really? Come on. Do you need something that big to go the 20 minutes across the entire lake?

It's just like the guys I see at the public dock at our club on the coast...the guys who drop in a 15 ft POS to go out to Jeffries'

SIKSUKR 06-25-2013 11:36 AM

The Summa Humma had triple 630's. Wonder where that boat ended up.

SIKSUKR 06-25-2013 11:53 AM

Just an fyi..The standard power in the 47' Fountain is twin 700 Mercs. You can option up to twin 1075. Even the twin 700 is VERY thirsty. Cruise at 50 using 57 GPH or how about WOT(90 mph) drinking 116 gph. Yikes! $400+ an hour for fuel.

The boat will end up at MVYC. Were it will be docked, restricts boat travel through MVYC channel for all of the members of MVYC. This slip has a a 44ft length limit (LOA) defined by the covenants of the property, but with IRWIN as the management company and the profits generated by the sale of this boat, it has been allowed to be docked in slip A1.

With a boat at the visitor dock and boats coming and going side by side someone is going to hit the bow of that boat.

Thank you MVYC.

NHBUOY 06-25-2013 10:47 PM

Methinks that, by the "way" Irwin's actually measure for compliance (for everyone) the LOA, THAT particular 47' Fountain is probably in compliance of the 44' rule. May even be under.

fatlazyless 06-26-2013 11:10 AM

....ya know....that 47' Fountain, the Summa Humma, was a great boat to watch....what a local spectacular, spectator loss that it got sold away off the lake about ten years ago...would be nice to see it come back to the big lake!

...seems like it could be a good boat for the wrestler who's building the incredible, log cabin mansion now on Meredith Bay, what with the price of gas and all?

Winniboater81 06-26-2013 01:16 PM

I drove by and saw this boat being put in the water the other day. The top was on. It is replacing a 47 foot Sea Ray that was at Mountain View YC. It may not be the largest boat out there, but it sure is the nicest / most expensive boat out there.

BroadHopper 06-26-2013 01:56 PM

Perhaps taxes, but not money. I'm willing to bet that the berth/dock fees are the same or more than many tax bills.

I found that the other day to.... Prior to South Carolina, it spent some time in NJ.....

I think they listed that it had over 200 hours at this point, which indicates it probably ready for a valve job and other maintenance activities that are required to keep high performance engines running and performing..... So 99K is probably pretty fair..... Considering all maintenance work is going to be X 3

Needs a valve job at only 200 hours!!??.... Really??... I don't disbelieve you it just sounds crazy. I never knew they were they required that kind of major internal maintenance at such low hours...

Might be the most expensive, but that baby blue Hinckley Picnic Boat (I think it's a T37) I saw recently, assuming it is still around, has got to be the nicest boat on the lake. Those Hinckleys are completely over-the-top when it comes to fit and finish, materials, and workmanship. If it is a T37, and it's new, it costs more than the Meridian too. http://www.hinckleyyachts.com/Jetboa...PB/t37-NPB.php

Could be accurate if loaded with all the options... I think the base price is around 800k on those. They draw very little water, are very simple to operate, and would be a great choice for exploring the lake/getting to and from an island home in all weather, in the utmost comfort and style, IMO.

tis 06-26-2013 04:23 PM

Well, I think he was referring to the price of the island, not the boat. He also has a house on the mainland.

It's true. Those are very high performance engines.

Even the Merc "blue" motors such as the 525 are meant to have the top ends serviced every few hundred hours.

Depends on how hard they are driven. Wear increases with the square of speed (in RPM) and internal heat (a function of how much HP is being generated) beats on the valves making them "tulip". Run those engines at 3000 RPM and they'll likely run for 1000 hours without any issues. Run them at WOT, they'll likely need a top end overhaul at 50 hours or less.

...and at 3000-rpm the boat could be doing about 45-mph in the daylight....plus the lower revs will save big on gas too!
