Does it ...... https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Cirrus_SR22 ...... really have a parachute that is attached to the plane and saves the entire plane and not just the pilot ...... a Cirrus air frame parachute system?

"Between 2001 and May 2014, 147 US-registered Cirrus SR22 aircraft crashed, resulting in 122 fatalities."

Yes sir, the chute is attached to a rocket motor that launches out of the top of the airframe. It is controlled by the pilot, deployed if needed. The parachute has been used over 100 times to date and saved over 200 lives. Interestingly Cirrus, had a dismal safety record when it first came out, the problem was that pilots were reverting to initial training during unsurvivable issues and trying to land the airplane instead of pulling the chute. So Cirrus started an aggressive training program to make the airplane one of the safest GA airplanes now. BUT at the end of the day, an airplane is only as safe as the pilot flying it. If anyone wants to be a pilot, make sure you get good initial training and regular recurrent training. Then make sure the airplane you fly is well maintained and don't do stupid things like running out of fuel, or flying into bad weather.

Thanks for asking Less.
