It sounds like K needs schooling in the art of boat ogling, and how important it is to our disability of Boat-Admiration-itis..........

If I recall correctly the boat is owned by WWE superstar Triple H (Paul Levesque) and has been seen on the lake many times.

I don't think that it is Triple H's...

....I have not seen "Midnight Express", but I have seen HHH and his fam in his boat numerous times, as his estate is just a few houses down from me. His boat is actually very modest, given his wealth....a 26' Bryant that is probably 7 or 8 years old.

Speaking of the Glendale docks, does anyone know who owns the
'Aston Martin' convertible parked there ?

I'm thinking the owner is an islander, as I see it parked there frequently.
Sweet ride !

Starting price for these babys' are around $200k, and go up from there. yikes !

Ah 'yes' the Riva, now it all makes sense ! What a nice boat, I had heard
that the boat is made in Italy, and was sent across 'the pond' ! Seen it pull into the docks last year a few times.

I know the man's name now, but will refrain from publishing for his privacy.

We came into the docks at the same time one morning this week... he said " hey, I like your boat". I said " well, it's not a Riva, but it does what I need it to do". I told him about some of the features and he said " well it probably cost as mush as the Riva". I said " close...but not quite as much"! :-)

Italian boats

Lots of Italian boats are imported to Fort Lauderdale and then move around the country. Last March, there was a Riva and an Apreeamare in the shop at Hi-Gloss Boat Restorations at the same time/ Riva is part of the Ferretti Group and Apremare was part of the group starting in 2001. Apremare has since left Ferretti as I understand it.

Riva Lamborghini Aquarama

I love Rivas. I guess basically the Italian Chris Craft but possibly a higher end. Lots of movie stars back in the day bought them, in particular, the Aquarama. Some of you may know the story. Ferruccio Lamborghini decided to purchase one in '68 but decided the standard engines weren’t enough for him. As it turns out, many items were not adequate for him. He collaborated with Carlo Riva and had a special one-off Aquarama built with two 4 liter Lambo V12 engines. Riva had his assemblers spend around 3000 hours to reach perfection. Very cool. Here is a quick vid showing a test run after an extensive recent restoration by Dutch Riva. The second link is a lost and found story of the boat.

One thing for sure...it will get you up to headway speed fairly quickly.

How many GPH at 2,500 rpm?

I hear those are hard to pull start.

Around $60,000 each, so almost a quarter million into it without a boat. :)

Not sure @2500, but .5lb/hr per Hp is a rough estimate. Probably 120-140GPH wide open.

Descant 08-11-2021 05:13 PM

Size?

How big is this boat? The Midnight Express website gives some numbers for the 43' Open, but it is 12''6" wide. The pictures here look like she fits on a standard trailer, which would be 8''6" wide or need an oversize load towing package/permit.

How do you trailer a boat with 10' beam? Do you need a lead vehicle for oversize? Gorgeous boat BTW.

NH.Solar 09-05-2021 09:15 AM

It is interesting to me to note that the inside props spin inwards while the outside props spin outwards. The general theory that I've always heard for duals is that you spin inwards to get more transom lift and outwards to get more bow lift. Setting up quads seems to have a whole different theory, but probably no one would know better than NorTech...

That would just need Wide Load signs.

Loads exceeding 12 feet wide usually require pilot or escort vehicles.

Loads over 16 feet wide are considered super loads and sometimes require road closures in addition to front and rear escort vehicles and police escorts.

For those who haven't seen this combo yet, here is (probably) the ultimate bowrider/cruiser, the Formula 500. Staggering performance for a boat of this size with the quad V12's. (The gph will make you stagger too!) Will need a thick wallet! I imagine Midnight express and others will follow suit. Here, Cpt. Steve gives the lowdown.

Those Mercury 600hp V12s are heavy and enormous you will only see them on huge center console and cruisers. Not built for speed. The aluminum block V8 platform with the NA 300R and supercharged 450 will end up as a 550 or 600hp when they max out that new platform.

Ya one and it probably tops out at 50MPH. They aren’t meant to go fast and never will. They don’t have tie bar set ups because the lowers are pods. Not safe at high speed.

Agree, like you said they are meant to move big heavy boats easily with 1 less engine than usual, and the engineering is pretty amazing, I think these will sell like crazy for that purpose.

BroadHopper 09-12-2021 09:23 AM

Size matters?

The 454 Magnum puts out 350 HP. But with a lot of weight!
The 2.0 TDI Audi 4 cylinder at stage 1 is also 350HP. With much less weight!
I'm assuming the HP to weight ratio put the smaller engine ahead!
Size does not matter but the amount of useful HP does!

I'd like to see the HP/Torque curves on both those engines. You're right useful HP matters, but where it is available also matters.
