FL 14 Marker Missing?

Is it me, or did there used to be a red marker alongside FL14 coming north out of Moultonborough Bay?

I ask because I've always gone to its left (GPS "safe passage" line) but yesterday saw a few people go to the right, so I took a (quick) peak and didn't see anything major. Are FLs ever without a colored marker?

To answer one of your queations - YES, some floating lights are strictly for navigation and do not have an accompanying black/red top.

Floating light #6 comes immediately to mind (off Becky’s Garden).

FL#14 to my recollection has a red top with it.

Likewise the flasher at Echo Point.

Red marker missing

Just checked and the red marker is indeed missing at FL14. The flashing pole is still there. Keep the pole to your east as you go past it.

No Spar Buoy

I think that FL#30 does not have a black top spar buoy next to it. Perhaps Charlotte's father can verify this as he passes around Mink Island. :)

UPDATE: While passing by FL#30 on my way to the mainland this morning, I saw that there is a black top spar buoy next to the lighted buoy.

This makes sense as a boat operator would have no indication on how to pass this location by observation only if no spar was there.

On the Bizer map fifth Edition there is a color coded legend that shows what lighted marker buoys have "companion navigation buoys".

Pretty meaningless if you do not know what direction you are going in the first place.

Number 30 should have a black top companion navigation buoy.

Number 14 should have a red top companion navigation buoy.

I don't have a more recent map so I'm not sure of any changes since then.

But it shows the ones in blue without companion navigation buoys makes it easy to spot them out.

Is not ?? this one a double flasher meaning that blinks twice a fast as a normal one.

Good catch, Think! Rocks in M'boro Bay are extraordinary now. It gives me chills to think of someone on plane on the wrong side of FL 14. If captains do not know the markers well enough to know when one is missing, they would do well to wait until May

I called it in today, in case Marine Patrol hasn't seen this.

As I mentioned, I didn't see much below the water, but I'd be interested to know if I missed anything or, if not, why the FL is there in the first place.
